Your future?

Stay where you are and invest in property improvements. When the wife is happy, you are happy.

My wife and I spent the last twenty years getting this place ready for retirement, even installing ramps to the house for when we need wheelchairs or canes. All the trees are grown and ready to be enjoyed. The flower gardens are installed and there's nothing my wife likes better than pulling weeds out of them, a sort of therapy (yay!). I like nothing better than driving the tractor around and fixing the roads and taking the quad for a spin to get the mail. The house is paid for. It's all here, now. Concentration is solely centered on relaxation and becoming one with the property at this point.

Your parents don't have a lot of time left, if you move to Florida, how long will it be before they have passed? Then what will you do?

With no attachment to your parents, my opinions are purely objective. But that's what you wanted, right?

Can't beat the posts by dmcarty and troutsqueezer. Three of our four kids tried living in Florida and after a few years moved by home with all four of our kids/grand kids/great grand kids living within twenty miles. My wife and I moved "home" from KCMO in the 70's so our kids could know their grand parents and to help our parents as they aged. All are gone now but my 90 year old mother is still independent and going strong living four miles from us.

We built a new home with plenty of room for visitors in 94 on a 300+ acre farm with our other properties withing six miles. We have tried to plan our building, land and usage to work well for us as well as the succeeding generations with input from them. Our sons are being moved into more active management of the properties and equipment; always got to plan for the future even when it doesn't include you, or at least that's e worked for us, everyone is a bit different.

Good luck.

It can be a tough call, but you should be where your comfortable. I would miss the change of seasons, and hate hot & humid weather. The wife likes Florida, some of her family has moved down there. I encourage her to go down & visit whenever she feels the need, & it works out well. Recently my son & DIL decided to move to FLA to take job promotions, I told them to do it while they are young & don't have kids yet. Me, I'm comfortable right here. Good luck to you, whatever you decide.
