There are a lot of those in East Texas-- used as pasture clippers. Can be pulled with anything I guess, e.g. truck or tractor.

Arkaybee

Yep, on this side of the Sabine River too. In fact, as a boy, that was the only rotary cutter that we had. We pulled it with the Farmall or the Poppin' Johnny. The worst thing about it was that it would sling stuff all over you. (sticks, pine cones, sand burrs, bull nettles, etc. And fire ant mounds made things very interesting!)

Now that is a cool idea.

Why a curved blade?

The "WalMartian Clipper"?? Let's see-I think someone asked the question as to what that blade was turning.

Working the vehicle speed formula backwards and assuming a tire rev per mile of 656 and assuming that the Yahoo on the ATV was driving 15 mph, I come up with a pinion speed of 674 RPM!

(the 656 is based on a tire size of 8.50 -17.5 which has a diameter of 29.4"-should be close enough)

Why a curved blade?

Someone mentioned it was a leaf spring and i agree it looks like it could be,

So probably out of necessity/ availability, but also the metallurgy of a leaf spring might be conducive to being a cutting tool ???

Looks like that pipe that pulls it was on the other side of the differential initially, you can see the circle where it was welded. Guess they realised it had to spin the other way?

That thing reminds me more of some type of primitive weapon. Like those balls of fire the ancient romans rolled down hills on the enemy armies. Scary

No.............its from Mad Max
