Just a friendly reminder. A drop of juice from an onion will stop the pain from a bee sting almost immediately.

I never knew that. I'll try to remember to try that.

I guess I've only been stung slightly more than a dozen times in my life. Mostly as a kid but it never caused any real problems. Last summer I was working on my patio deck and got stung on the back of the left hand. Wasn't sure what happened and I kind of looked around to see if there were any other bees flying around.

Then in about 3 minutes my hand swelled up and then started to hurt because of the swelling and pulling on the skin. After a few more minutes it felt like the skin was so tight that it might just split open if the swelling continued. Went in the house and put the hand in some ice water thinking it might stop some of the swelling. No other reaction but it was suggested I take some benedryl, which I did but the hand stayed swelled up for over a weeks time. 20150710_115511.jpg

Cheek: 7 - Wasp while looking over the side of an above ground pool.
Nipple: 6.7 - Does right next to it count? I had a bee fly into my shirt while motorcycling and I slapped it, so I kind of stung myself.
Upper arm: 2.3 - Several bee stings
Forearm: 5 - Several bee stings.
Top of hand: 4.7 - Several bee stings.
Feet: 6 - Several bee stings.
Skull: 2.3 - Several bee stings.
Back of neck: 5.3 - Several bee stings.
Lower back: 4 - Several bee stings.
Wrist: 4.7 - Several bee stings.
Fingers: It says 6.7 but they didn't feel more than a 3 - Several bee stings.
Thigh: 4.7 - Several bee stings.
Calf: 3.7 - Several bee stings.

I guess I'm not allergic to bee stings....

The worst was definitely the wasp in the cheek. Right under my eye. I was in an above ground swimming pool, leaned out over the edge to try and reach a pool toy that had fallen out, and right about when my face got past the edge of the underside of the pool wall, there was a wasp nest. Felt like FIRE in my face! I dove back under the water and stayed there holding my face. It swelled up and pretty much closed my eye for a couple hours.

Stung in the back of my throat! Yellow jacket wanted a taste of my beer, I took a big swallow and got hit.

That's pretty serious. Many years ago there was a man at a local Lake Michigan beach that drank from a pop can, there was a bee inside, he swallowed the bee, and it stung him on the inside of his throat on the way down. It swelled closed and he died in front of his family.... just awful. :(

Got into a yellow jacket nest mowing last year with the push mower  Never had an issue before. But got nailed on the leg and ankle 14 times. Ankle and foot swelled up to where I couldn't get my shoe back on. Walked into the walk in clinic wearing my wife's pink flip-flops

Back about 20 years ago, I had a bumble bee fly down my shirt while driving. AC was out in the truck so I had the windows down, arm on the sill for some air flow through my shirt.

Felt something bounce off my arm and figured it was a June bug. I realized I thought wrong when I got nailed in the kidney area. Got stung twice more before I got the truck stopped and my shirt with the bee off :D To add insult to injury, someone called the cops and said some kid was wigging out and stripping on the side of the road  Found that out when I headed back down the road and got pulled over a few minutes later. Got let go once I explained myself and showed the cop the welts on my side:D

My total score is: 0, zero, naught, nada, diddly-squat.

Bees and I get along just fine... even bumblebees. Tasmania is the only State in Aus that has bumblebees too. They seem to like the colour blue, which my work clothes predominately are. I just say, "G'day Bumble!", It checks me out & then flies away. Never been a problem.

Just a friendly reminder. A drop of juice from an onion will stop the pain from a bee sting almost immediately.

friendly reminder from the wiki pedia

"Many traditional remedies have been suggested for bee stings including damp pastes of tobacco, salt, baking soda, papain, toothpaste, clay, garlic, urine, onions, aspirin or even application of copper coins.[17][18] As with jellyfish stings, ammonia and ammonia-containing liquids, such as window cleaner, are often suggested as a way to immediately cleanse the skin and remove excess venom, and sweat itself (which also contains small amounts of ammonia) may provide some small relief.

Bee venom is acidic, and these interventions are often recommended to neutralize the venom; however, neutralizing a sting is unlikely to be effective as the venom is injected under the skin and deep into the tissues, where a topically applied alkali is unable to reach, so neutralization is unlikely to occur.[17] In any case, the amount of venom injected is typically very small (between 5 and 50 micrograms of fluid) and placing large amounts of alkali near the sting site is unlikely to produce a perfectly neutral pH to stop the pain.[17] Many people do claim benefit from these home remedies but it is doubtful they have any real physical effect on how much a sting hurts or continues hurting. The effect is probably related to rubbing the area or the mind perceiving benefit.[17] Furthermore, none of these interventions have been proven to be effective in scientific studies and a randomized trial of aspirin paste and topical ice packs showed that aspirin was not effective in reducing the duration of swelling or pain in bee and wasp stings, and significantly increased the duration of redness.[14] The study concluded that ice alone is better treatment for bee and wasp stings than aspirin.[14]"

Early name for "bumble bee" was "HUMBLE BEE" . I've no fear of these friends.

I can testify that it works, and works unequivocally. I spent 16 years as a research Chemist, and have run enough experiments to have an idea of how to assess a result. While my experience is anecdotal, I have tried it three times and it worked every time, and worked almost immediately. It did not affect the swelling but the effect on the pain was undeniable. When I got the sting in the palm of my hand, my Father was still living. He was sitting on the porch and told me to put some onion juice on it and it would kill the pain. I thought, "yeah, right, it's an old wive's tale", but I thought I would humor him and try it. Much to my amazement, it worked 100%. Makes me no difference if you believe or doubt. I say try it. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.
