I got this years ago at the farm store.
I'll run out when I'm 286 y.o.

That was my childhood, actually. My grandmother was the youngest of a very large family, one of 22 kids, 11 naturally-born and another 11 foster siblings. When that group reached their 80's, between each sibling and their respective spouse's, it felt like I'd damn near taken up residency at the family funeral home. The annual family reunion attendance was quartered in a decade. Also when every week another funeral…
We've lost 3 sets of our friend's parents in the past 2 years. My mother in law is the last of them alive. She's about 12 years younger than all of them, but still, 85 and not doing so great. Also when every week another funeral…
My 98 year old grandma told me a few weeks before she passed that when her husband and friends were all passing away, she wasn't ready to go.... but now she's ready. But her body just won't quit. "The doctor told me I have the heart of a 70 year old" was one quote from her I'll never forget. Not that many years back, my mother (age 96) moved into a "retirement community".
With her own small "cottage", and many like minded (aged) people around, she did well and said she liked it there.
Forward to a couple weeks ago when I and my wife got her on an airplane and took her to attend our son's (her grandson) wedding. Now she doesn't have much to like about here "village".
All her friends have died off..
When our kids were small, we'd just go out in the yard and slobber down some watermelon slices and let them spit the seeds all over the lawn. Many a stray watermelon plant would sprout.Do you have to be old to remember watermelon seed spittong contests? Now they are all quasi seedless, with just those little white seeds. It was all in fun but somebody must have lost an eye.![]()
