You Know You Are Old When

I don't know if you have the Big Apple convenience store chain where you are but their door alarm does the same thing. It's just at a frequency which is obnoxious. I mentioned it to a store manager years ago who said "too bad." She watched me go back out to my truck and drive next door to the Irving station.
Yeah, we have them here too. Can't say I've noticed any high pitched sound there, but my high frequency hearing is long gone.

When I was a teenager one of my sisters won some sort of award and got to be on tv. The whole family went since it was a couple hour drive away. Inside the studio there was a high pitched sound that gave me a splitting headache, no one else seemed to have noticed it.

We didn't have air conditioning in my parents house. When I was maybe 14 years old, I took the money from my first paycheck, went to Western Auto, and bought a box fan for myself.
Pa wouldn't have AC to his dying day.
He said if you got used to it you wouldn't want to go outside to do anything.
He was kinda right.
I actually installed a ceiling fan.

Sounds like my family except mom said no fans because of the draft...

As folks are replacing their old gas furnaces with heat pumps and rebates we are seeing more A/C but always through the floor registers...

The 1993 home I bought has 1993 A/C that works... I've had it on 4 evenings/nights this year when temps were a 100+

My home is well insulated with triple pane windows and by the third hot day with consecutive hot nights I go to the A/C

My pop also refused to put in AC when he built his retirement home. He changed his mind though and added it when us kids refused to visit during hot weather.

Living in the Detroit area, getting a divorce and moving to California for a while, because of the recession. I had central

air in the house, plus AC's from before. I called my Dad in the UP of Michigan and told him I have 3 window AC's, 5k, 10k

and a 12k, you can have any or all if you want them. He said I don't need any AC's up here. I went to CA and flew back

to the UP July of 1989 for class reunion and family reunion. The temps were in the high 90's for a week, he tells me that

maybe I should have taken on of those AC's huh.

I worked in one briefly as a 16 yo, mid 70’s. Mostly putting bicycles and push mowers together. $3.00 hour.
We also had a White Auto, very similar.
The only Western Auto I shopped was located in South Lake Tahoe.

Don't remember much in the way of auto parts... more accessories and things for outdoor use.

I did buy 177 darts for the Benjamin air pistol...
