Yup. I grew up with one of those on our farm in Pennsylvania. Hated it. Night is supposed to be dark! During the summer that light would have a very visible huge cloud of bugs swirling around it.

And bats. We had bats fly round the outdoor light, likely eating the bugs.

This place had one when we bought it. Told the electric company I didn't want it (for the same reason as you), and they just took the charge off the bill, but left the light connected. A few months later I put in a new electrical panel and service entrance, and they ran new wires to the house from the transformer bypassing the pole with the light.

I tried that after about ten times of it not working in the first year but they wouldn't take it off the bill. Of course it quit working again so I just never reported it and have had much darker nights since. The last 30 years have been very pleasant even if I did have to pay an extra $2.37/month for the privilege.

When I was a young boy I remember seeing my grandparents take medication and even remember the early drug commercials and just thought that I would be heavily medicated once I reached a certain age.
Fortunately at almost 60 the legalized drug pushers have not gotten to me.

i've read that electric bug zappers attract more bugs (mosquitos i think) than they kill.

Everyday I see zip lock bags full of meds that it is rare not to have a senior patient with no prescriptions.

I just clocked up 82 years young - ten day ago. What do I notice at this age.
- it's harder to get a good night sleep
- I don't move quite as fast
- I do a whole lot more planning before I start any project
- I enjoy my recliner more than I use to
- I enjoy a simple diet. So does my digestive system.
- I'm very fortunate. I have no lingering pains
- I'm still able to do most everything I want. Just a little slower.
