Or see your county replace your high school twice since you graduated.
Around here the public school districts want to tear down schools after 20 or 30 years and build new at taxpayer expense. The school I went to (Catholic) is still standing after 100 years and going strong.

And guess what will happen to the author of that one day? Welcome aboard.
Mr. Sixdogs, somehow I found my way into the ol' fart's club!!! It's not a bad place to be...

Seems odd there isn't even a fence between the plane parking area (I'm sure there's a proper term for it ) and the highway.
We had several local airports growing up without any fences…

Simpler times maybe?

There's been a lot of that around here, the last 10 years. The story I keep hearing is that building new is cheaper than retrofitting the old, which I suppose could be true.

The need to retrofit the "old" is population growth, and current requirements to remove lead and asbestos really drive up the cost of retrofitting the old.

We keep paying for lead and asbestos remediation and at this point if these buildings still have lead and asbestos people need to go to prison…

On the flip side schools continue to close due to declining enrollments… families leaving or staying but pulling kids from the public school system…

Those were different times, more respect for other's property, and more common sense as far as safety was concerned.
Did you notice the helicopter in flight to the left of center of the picture?
here is an amazing spectrum of planes in that picture form a Mooney Mini-Mite to a P-51 to a B-25. At one time they flew B-17s in and out of that strip. They also converted the B-25s to corporate planes, putting seating in the area where the bomb bays had been. Of course, the bomb bay doors were permanently fastened in place.

We're missing basic yet vital moral codes followed by the vast majority...

There are fundamental truths (nothing to do with any unique religion) with well established right and wrong behavior which has been the underpinning of civilization long, long before it became acceptable for people to live by their own self-created, warped "truths" popular today.

Yes it is a good place to be. If you get old enough you can bump into hot babes and they apologize for bumping into you.

No. Encapsulation has always been an approved method for dealing with lead paint on buildings not under renovation. Likewise, there is no need to deal with asbestos located in areas of buildings where it is sealed off and not disturbed, my own high school had a wing that was sealed off because they no longer needed the space and it contained asbestos flooring and ceiling tiles. It is only because of the necessary renovations, that the encapsulated lead or sealed off asbestos need to be removed, before they are driven into the air by the demo crew.

Maybe in California? Public school enrollment here has been on an ever-upward trend, for many decades, with no sign of turning negative.

Our own kids have always been in private school, and the low enrollment of all of our local private schools is a real problem, in terms of keeping programs going and keeping costs from climbing too badly. COVID helped, a lot of people left public school for a year or three starting in 2020, but almost as many have moved back to the public schools, today.

It could very well be a SF Bay Area thing of declining enrollment… home prices also dropping and Oakland commercial down in some cases over 50% from 2001 peak.

There have been many school remediation ballot measures and these have a special carve out from 2/3 voter approval requirement as 55% approval needed to pass statewide.

Crystal radio receivers are a very simple kind of batteryless radio receiver. They do not need a battery or power source, except for the power that they receive from radio waves using their long outdoor wire antenna. Sharp Electronics' first electrical product was a batteryless crystal radio introduced in 1925. It was Japan's first—and sold extremely well.

Very well said. (y)
