LMTC,

That isn't the stuff that was used on it, but its very similar. Maybe it isn't supposed to harden after all.

I thought that the OEM "thick" gasket may act as a spacer for something, causing it NOT to leak down. Thanks.

Normmm,

I'll try that in a few minutes. If thats the problem, where do I adjust the linkage at?

Thanks,
Travis

What I'm fixing to say may sound silly but its the truth. Here goes:

I may have found the problem, but not sure exactly what it is.

First, I found and adjusted the control valve linkage. It didn't make a difference though as far as stopping the leakdown....

Second, I decided to drain the transmission/hydraulic fluid AND cleaned the filthy suction screen. The oil looked like it came out of a diesel engine! It was Very black and had lots of grit and a few metal shavings. The screen was not as bad as I thought it would be, but was still very filthy for a tractor that had just been 'serviced'.

I had a little less than 5 gallons of "Super Trac" universal tractor hydraulic/transmission fluid in my shed. I put that in the tractor (which I know didn't fill it up- wasn't even showing on the stick, but could see it at the bottom- just wanted to flush the system) and ran it down to the neighbors (to get it hot) and came back. After killing the tractor with the hydraulics all the way up (finish mower attached), IT STOPPED THE LEAKDOWN!

But.........

I drove it up to my grandmother's house (1/2 mile), where it is stored, and killed it with the hydraulics up. It started leaking down gradually and I do mean Gradually. It was actually kinda hard to tell that it was going down. Once I fill it up to the correct oil level, you think it will stop leaking?

So WHAT EXACTLY DOES THIS MEAN?

I think that what I'm gonna do is just keep changing the fluid and cleaning the screen until the fluid is clean and the hydraulics no longer leak. It may get expensive, but I don't care. I want my 'new' tractor to function correctly!

I'm gonna work on it tomorrow after work. I gotta go "stock up" on trans/hyd. oil!

Thanks,

Travis R

Could be coincidence, could be one of those "shavings" you referred to got around the lip of a seal or something and you flushed it out................but clean fluid is always a good idea, regardless of whether it fixes the problem. I don't understand the black fluid tho, that would worry me more............my Yanny was not serviced regularly - if at all - when I got it, and the fluid was still very clean looking - if this is a hydro shift, could that be evidence of a problem with the clutch packs?
