Tractor
B7800 & Ym240
I pulled the head off my ym240 & had it magna fluxed - no cracks. The I.D. # is 2TR18. Engine # is 2TR20A. Anyone else experienced this? The holes at the flywheel end of the block don't have matching holes to the water jacket on the head. The old head gasket wasn't blown. Just rust on the head at the two points where the block holes are. jbrd

a YM240 rebuild? Why would an american tractor be sent to nam then back to the US? Maybe an engine pulled out of a rebuild and put into the 240?

The reason I pulled the head was the compression on #1 was 340 psi and #2 had 300 psi. It ran okay for awhile, then started belching out some grey then black smoke. Anyway, I'm replacing pistons, liners, rod bearings, & the necessary gaskets. Once again, this tractor was left on my property by my brother, I don't know the history. We don't speak. This was given to him as some kind of a barter deal. The #2 piston was damaged on top where the air intake is, just a wild guess, but I'm thinking someone used starting fluid. The rings on that piston were broken. #1 had one broken ring, and the piston skirt was scuffed pretty good. As far as a Viet Nam rebuild, I don't know. The research I've done shows this head is for the ym1800, and looking at the picture (I know, hokey) of the ym1800 head gasket it has the same hole pattern as the one on the ym240 head gasket. I know there are no easy answers, but a new head at this time isn't feasible. jbrd

I wouldn't worry about the head. A lot of them are interchangeabloe and were done so by the factory. Not a VN rebuild. For all I know that could be the correct/only head for the YM240.

sorry guys, my wife looked at the number on the head and said the 8 was actually a six, making the head number a 2TR16 which I guess is used on several Yanmar tractors including the ym240. I'll get another set of eyes to look with me before I stir anything else up. Thanks, jbrd

How did the head part# get to be an issue in the first place? I have had my YM2000B for 9 years and have no clue as to the head part #.

He is probably like me, once you start getting into the tractor to fix something sometimes you think too much.:D

Howdy, When I pulled the head off I saw the number on it and wondered why that number was different than the engine #. Hopefully if someone has the same question this will save them some time . Just inexperience on my part. jbrd

I discovered the same thing last year when I rebuilt my YM1700. It also has 2TR16 on the head

did you blow your head gasket. Didn't you just purchase this tractor a few months ago?
