YM2210 rear seal

Can anyone help me with getting started changing the rear axle seal on a YM2210? I have always went in through the PTO cover on other tractors, but this one has the shifter up on the transmission. I assume you have to pull the shifter first. Is it easier to go through the PTO or by taking the lift assembly off and going in from the top? Also will the seal from an 1810/1820/ etc. fit?
