Congratulations Survey1!

I am a new YM2000D w FEL owner also. (Beat you by 11 days :D)

It's really a cool machine.

Brought some hunks of logs up from the pasture in the FEL so hubby could split them last week so he's a happy camper too. So we're planning all kinds of fun things to do with it now. Enjoy.

Bought her today!!!! YM2000BD w/FEL. Bought a new trailer as well from a different place. I've been running all over town this afternoon just to get this done. I'm exhausted. I'm glad the dealer stayed late by 2 hours past closing to finish the deal so I'll be able to make a run to the barn tomorrow after work and tinker with my new machine. So far I've enjoyed my buying experience. I'll give more details after I get some sleep....I think 4:30a.m. is gonna come quick. And Thanks to all that contributed advice toward my buying experience.

Do yourself a big favor. If the past servicing of the tractor is not obvious, I would go through and replace all fluids and filters, including draining and backflushing the radiator, greasing every zerk and oiling everything that moves. WIX filters are fuel -3262, oil - 1064, air - 2297. NAPA adds a leading 4,5 or 6. If Hy/Tran looks good and works good, no prob. For oiling, I find a "PLEWS 50-515" oil pistol, (about $8-9), to be indispensible. It will squirt a stream of 90wt about 10'. You will probably find changing the oil filter a bit of a pain. If it has the original air filter, they are re-washable many times over.

Norm do you use that Wix air filter? We hear so many folks say that that does not have a gasket on it like the replacements and dirt can get sucked past it. Are you comfortable with this filter that dirt is not getting sucked past it? Im just curious?

I think, Survey, you went with a VN recon. If so, i would still replace the fluids as they do not always have the best, correct , or quite as high quality lubes in them that we use here.

Absolutely on the WIX 2297 filter. When I first got my tractor 10 years ago I washed the OEM filter and put it away for possible future use. The seals are in the cover and lower housing, not in the filter. The filter is about 1/32" taller than the OEM filter, giving an even tighter seal where needed, leaving a (who cares), few .000" gap between the cover and outer edge of the casing. Every time I change the filter it is brand spanking new on the inside.

Thanks for the filter numbers Normde. The fluids all look super clean with that very slight amber color as they should. I'll probably change filters just out of paranoia. I was curious to ask BurningBushFarm or anyone else with power steering if turning the wheel seems a tad slower than say a car would. My theory is the huge hydro Ram used to operate it looks larger in diameter than even the loader's pistons. I am satisfied with the turning response overall since I'm not driving a mountain road course at 50mph with it, but I just found it different. If I ever have a problem with it I might try a smaller diameter ram to allow the pump to move it faster in theory. I may repost this question since this will create thread creep I think.

Hi Survey1.

My YM2000D does not have power steering.

I don't think!?!

That's probably one of the differences between the D and BD (we talked about this on another thread -- ) I only have 2 cylinders (racketaracketa) and no fancy transmission. My wheels are 30+ years old.

No fancy anything and I still love it.

Moved some more rotting hay and manure today and managed to dump some on myself (up and incline where I am dumping it). Yech. I have mostly flat land but with this mud we have now even the slight elevation changes would be a challenge with a 2WD. Feeling quite good about it all.

So far it's only cost me $2000 / hr. :p

Mrs.Burning Bush, I don't believe I have ever heard anyone more happy than you with a new tractor. And I'm tickled for you!!:)

Fantastic weekend with my new pet! I am thrilled with the performance. I moved a good bit of dirt around building up the ground around the barn. The 4wd helped alot in the mushy areas. As for the power steering, after looking around it seems that its kind of a rare option on a 2000 but I think I have gotten used to it. The only bad thing is I fell into the Yanmar VN tiller trap that Carey had tried to warn me about. I only thought I had a top-link that would work. So now I need to find the correct one. I saw the pic that he had posted but I'm not sure how it works to fix the tire scrubbing problem. Also, pics of my new pet are coming soon.

The tiller top-link works by extending the top-link pivot point on the tractor about 8 1/2" to the rear to keep it out of the tires. The pivoting part of the top-link on the tiller side is 8" (adjustable) on mine. The overall length is about 17".

The top-link uses two of the holes, where you would attach a normal top-link to the tractor, to bolt into.

When I first saw this setup I thought that it was done as an afterthought. Once I used it, I realized that the design is awesome because you don't give up much maneuverability because the tiller is tucked in so tight to the tractor. For me, that's important because I till close to fences.

fwiw,

Keith
