Ok, I'm zeroing in on a "reconditioned" Yanmar ym2000BD. Of course its 4wd and it has a FEL that I think is a Koyker. I have been told both that it can and can't handle my 5' bushhog so that is one question, although my bushhog is ancient and in real rough shape so I wouldn't be beyond the idea of replacing it as well. Anyway, the dealer is giving a 6 month warranty on the tractor for $7700. I haven't haggled with him yet on price but is this close to a good deal? Thanks for any input.

Where was the reconditioning done and what did that include?

If your looking for opinions to me it isn't worth $7,700, maybe $6,000.

In regards to your bushhog, it can pull a 5' cheap light economy mower fine, better to get a heavy duty 4' model if you are looking to buy. again my opinion.

according to the dealer, all of his tractors are recon'd in Vietnam although when he was looking for one on his price sheets he was looking at a couple different sheets, thus I think he was shopping different suppliers. He did say this one had ROPS, while the ones on his lot did not. BTW the bushhog I have is not light, its a vintage model with a gearbox as big as a pickup truck's differential.

You will get mixed opinions on a VN recon tractor, for that price i'm sure you can get a UTDA tracor reconditioned here in the states..You should go that route.

Caught your other post. For that price RUN. talk to Spalding who uses US Refurbs with UTDA ROP's. I've bought a couple Yanmars from him. The YM2500 is A yr. old this months with no problems with it that wasn't operator error and easily corrected.

+1 on Spalding. I bought a Yanmar tiller from them. Their tractors look like new. Good folks!

Does Spalding have a website? Or a better question is he located in GA? BTW, while having ROPS is an advantage, I don't feel its neccesary for me to buy. This particular deal just happens to have it included. I do however want a gear transmission, FEL and 4wd with what I buy. I tried out a 1700 on the dealers lot and with my size and big feet, it was uncomforatable to operate. I sat on a 2000 2wd on his lot and it had a much better fit.

just spoke with spalding and he was higher in price but he did make the case for a domestic recon job and he has a 1yr warranty versus the 6mo. this is gonna take some thought.

IMHO there is no better tractor than a YM2000BD in good condition. That price is pretty much in the ballpark with a new or like new Koyker loader. How long ago was the VN recon? (How many hours on the hourmeter?) It may pull a 5' bush hog, but you won't like it.

showing 900+/- on the meter but 've read that the meters on a recon tractor is usually unreliable as an actual gauge of use. I might try and haggle with him a bit but comparing this deal with several other prices i've picked up around the internet, I think you're right Normde. The big advantage with this dealer is the fact that his location is very close to me, in case of warranty work, etc. And although Spalding has a better warranty, I figure if something big doesn't break in 6 months, it probably won't anytime soon.

most VN recons read low hours on the meter (10-30), so even if its VN but has been used 870+ hours since the recondition it may be a good buy. If something bad was going to happen it most likely would have already.

My question would be how the koyker loaded ended up on the VN recon machine, most VN's have bulldog or V2.
Maybe the original owner purchased as a recon then added the koyker loader, used the machine for years then sold, just a thought.

Did he say that particular machine was a VN?

At my first read I didnt notice you said 4wd, so I will bump my 6,000 price up to 7,000.

The VN tractors usually are reset to somewhere under 20 hours on everything i have seen when they come refurbed. No way this had 900 hours put on it after a refurb and still looks new. Maybe the 2000b models they leave the origianl hours on them now to make them harder to spot?

The strange thing is the Koyker loader. They usually use bulldog or v2 loaders on VN tractors now i know thats not a rule. A guy could import VN non-loader tractors and put koykerloaders on them to make them harder to spot, but i think the profit margin is way better on the other models. I would not be afraid of the loader, the tractor is the more suspect item of a VN pair.

Yep, if a VN recon, in 900 hours it has proven itself, but if a koyker loader, who put it on? My YM2000B, straight out of the shipping container 10 years ago with 520 hrs now has 650hrs. With a 9999.9 hour meter it's normally reliable. If it works and looks good try to get it for best price.

I'm actually not sure its a koyker loader. I assumed koyker since the models he had on the lot were koyker. There again I'm not sure if this one is actually a VN since he looked at several pricing sheets when he was trying to find me one. I'm going on the fact that he said all of his tractors are "Vietnam Recon". However this was said early in the conversation before I got narrowed down to this particular model. I should talk with him tommorrow about getting it over to his lot so I can inspect it properly. I was working a package deal with a trailer, but I'm not really impressed with the design of the trailer. He wants $1500 additional for it.

That's our point, all VN reconditoners use the bulldog or the v2 loaders, but anything is possible...if so then its a first for me as well im sure the rest of this board.

If he has a lot full of yanmars with koykers that is more inline with US reconditioners. I would find out exactly before I purchased anything.

If the machine has 900 hours my guess is its not a vn recon, but who knows.

any particular brand of loader I should stay away from?

/ ym2000BD is the price right? #20
Not really they all do the same thing, I read the v2 and bulldogs use uncommon fittings and hoses, etc that you just couldn't replace by going to a parts store. I can't confirm that though, maybe someone else can.

we are referencing the loaders to help you spot a true VN recon as they typically will have the bulldog or v2 on them.
