YM2000 hard to start

My YM2000 is hard to start, but seems to be fine after its started. I have tried the valve relief and let go after turning but is still hard to start. Once I start it I only get a puff of white smoke when I hit the throttle and that is it.

I have a YM1700 also and it seems to start really easy.

What do I need to look for.

The guy that had it before me said he replaced the pistons, rings, bearings.

Just a side note, It does not have that hammer sound that my 1700 has.

sounds like you are getting a little air from some were.you may need a new fuel bowl.

I will check the fuel bowl and the o-ring on it to see if I can tell if it is sucking in water.

What is the cover plate on the end of the head that is next to the gas tank. It looks like there may be a little something coming out the top of it (leaking).

It is just a cover. Take it off, clean it up. Put a little silicone on it and you should be good to go.

I was wondering, this thing had sat up for about 3 years not running. Do you think the injectors may need cleaning?

I think my rings may need to be changed. When I was testing it, the tractor was hard to start still and when running it would give blask smoke when throtle up like it was lugging to get up to speed. I have a YM1700 also and it gives a puff of smoke but nothing like this one.

I also have exhaust coming out of the crank vent tube and the oil fill if I pull it while running.

I have no way to check compression on a diesel motor.

Do you guys think I need to remove the head and oil cover plate and remove the pistons and check them?
