I have never owned nor wrenched on a Yanmar but have done all my NH,MF,IH and Ford maintenance including engine rebuilds. I'm about to make a 2 hour drive to look at buying a YM1700 and have a couple of questions. I would liken my years of experience with the big four then buying a grey market to an old cowpoke buying a camel to ride on Sundays. :confused3: Seller said fel works but 3 point will not lift any weight. #1. If fel works, does that tell me pump is fine and it will only need some seals/O-rings or other routine maintenance ($300 spool valve at worst) to get 3 point working?
#2. In the event seller isn't familiar with controls on his tractor. Is there a lock-out or diverter which might be improperly set/adjusted that would cause 3 to be inoperable eventhough fel is working?
I'm only looking at buying at this point so I don't need detailed repair instructions until if and when I buy it.
Thanks for any wisdom you might share.

if the loader works, the pump is fine. There is a knob under the seat that will shut off flow to the 3 point if screwed all the way in. I would check to make sure that knob is open. There is also a rate of drop lever on the side of the 3 point control valve under the seat that could be set wrong. It should be straight up.
All I can think of.
Other than the above, It could be something wrong internally.

Thanks, that's the kind of info I need to know. Anyone think of other possabilities?

They are pretty simple. There's not much else that can go wrong.

If you've seen similar 3-point systems on Ford and MF - well this is pretty much a clone of those.

I just looked at mine in detail since I have it off. The rate drop lever in the straight up position is I think wide open if I remember. If you twist it either way the passageway reduces in size and will slow the drop rate of the implement.

if adjusted all the way, mine won't move at all

Im talking about the valve lever not the knob under seat, but that said the lever closes off the orfice if moved all the way to left or right. So the fluid can not escape. Its just a shaft with a hole drilled through it that matches up with a hole to dump the fluid through in the valve body. Lever up the hole is lined up with the outlet, as you rotate it left or right that hole on that shaft moves out of alignment. Basically just like a ball valve plumbing fitting.

Thanks for explaining those controls. That will be most helpful. Folks have been known to get in real trouble pulling handles and twisting knobs they don't know the functions of.:alert:

Thank you for posting. As a result,I received an email and realized I had not followed up :duh:(my bad)
Thank you to all who took time to explain how and what controls do. Knob beneath seat was closed just as kenmac suspected. I brought it home and parked under shed to await "bad weather project days"to change fluids and other needed attention. I apologize for not following up sooner.
