I have recently purchased a YM1500D. I have seen several threads that referenced older and newer versions of the 1500D. Can someone describe how to differentiate between the two versions?

So, if I understand this correctly; it is an older version if the engine speed is controlled by a hand lever on the right side of the instrument panel rather than a foot pedal.

Not entirely true about the foot throttle. I have seen late models with and without the foot throttle. The older models had green wheels, hoods, and fenders with a black frame/engine. The later models had the red hood and fenders, off white wheels and a green frame/engine. Of course a lot of people repaint before they sell them so how can you tell the difference then? Here is how! The sure way to tell is whether the bell housing is cast or stamped steel. If the bell housing of the transmission has a smooth finish it is an older model. If the finish is a rough cast iron finish, it is the later and heavier model.

true, some people have adapted the foot throttle to the older models
