Went to start old reliable for the first time this year, it wasn't so reliable. It started right up and ran for about ten seconds with no problems, then it died. The engine will crank over, but won't start now. Just blows a lot of smoke. Do I need to bleed the fuel system? What gives.

Thanks

If it happened to me I would Drain the Tank and replace the Filter. New fresh clean Fuel, Bleed it really good and see what happens. Here's a NAPA # for the Filter

Thats the same number I tell them at car quest. They just get me their equivalent. Six also makes their filters.

Drained fuel and replaced filter. Bleed system and fired right up. Don't use the tractor enough to use up all the fuel. It has been in for two years. The filter was slimy. Is there a good diesel stabilizer. Or should I just not fill the tank all the way up and drain for winter storage? Thanks for the help.

There are plenty of diesel stabilizers. I think stabil may make one. Star tron makes one . Plenty for the marine market. You had moisture and algae in it it sounds like. Just put some stabilizer in it. Fuel should easily last 2years. You dont want to run the thing dry all the time thats a pain. Just use something to prevent algae and dont worry about it. You know what to do now if it does it again .

Glad your going again.

Best to leave tank full for storage. Does not allow room for condensation. A tank of fuel lasts about 2 years for me also. Starts right up after sitting 6 months.

None of the above. Have 90 acres, go there 2-3 times a year and mow about 2 acres of yard space and misc. box blade work.

Well if you only mow that little bit then i guess it makes sense then. I too go to my property now about 4x a year. but about 2x a year i bushog somewhere near 7 acres or so. and sometimes finish mow about 2. I use a good bit more than a tank or two a year though

I can use a tank full in a day ..A tank of fuel in 2 yrs ??? I wish my tractor was that efficient..

WOW! I mow a good bit weekly over 2.5 acres just with the FM. And plus I BB my Rd. And BH..
How much Fuel have I Used this Yr.??. For the last 6yrs. I've averaged 65Hrs. on the Tach. But I went down for over a Yr. so it's more of 75+ a Yr.. And the only time the Tractor went down was when the Starter Quit and I had to send it out to get repaired/rebuilt. 75.00 $.. So Tech. I wasn't totally down I could of pull started it if I had to. Had the starter back in the Tractor and working 2 days.:D. That's one of the reasons I bought it ASIS. Imo. if something was going to go out in the Motor,Trans Etc. I figured with the use if it had a problem it would show.
