KiotiJohn,

That design rake was first marketed in the U.S. by Farmhand about thirty-five years ago. They claimed that there was less leaf loss than with a conventional design.

A couple of my neighbors have them and as far as I know, they like them.

We've had the V rakes here for some time. Vermeer has offered those for some time. Don't know how well they have sold or how well they work. New Vermeer 'V' rake - 1997

Not sure if strong is as relevant to american farmers as how gently it treats the hay. With Alfalfa, more leaves in the bale mean more milk in the bucket.

jim that one is too heavy you must have a big tractor to ride it but if you have 25 hp tractor you can use it.
it has a 17"-23" working width

In my area, most of the tractors are larger than 25 hp. The exception is the Amish, who use horses and mules for field work. They would probably not gain anything from using a 'V' rake since they tend to favor small New Holland balers powered by two cylinder Wisconsin engines. I doubt that the horses could walk slowly enough to keep from stalling the baler on a double windrow.

Wondering if the Amish has changed their approaches to the internet. If they are viewing the net, they may find the rake in the attached picture useful. No plastic, no engine, no electricity. Only the horse and FE alloyed with some C.

Nomad,

If the Amish are using the web, I am not aware of it. Perhaps if you can design a computer that runs on compressed air they will use it.

The Amish in Turkey must be quite different from those that live next to me. They use plastic, engines (gasoline and diesel), and batteries to power their buggy lights and fences. I have seen them use some old equipment, likely motivated by thrift, but nothing as antiquated as a dump rake.

Usually, they will either manufacture horse drawn equipment or convert it to steel wheels and power it with a gasoline engine. For many years, Wisconsin was the standard power source for their field equipment with either a Petter or Lister diesel to run the air system. Now, Honda engines are very popular and I've seen diesel's of all makes in use.

Several years ago, my Amish neighbor split his farm into two farms and sold them to two of his sons. He opened a chain saw / string trimmer shop and lives in half of the new house that was built on the farm. After many years of using the neighbors' telephones, he constructed a phone shanty about two feet inside his property line and now the three families share a telephone.

They are the same hay rakes being sold by/on
http://www.agri-supply.com/catmain/2000015.htm as GCRxx, GVRxx, GRxx, etc..

While all wheel rakes have rake wheels, a frame and/or transport wheels the similarities stop there. You are incorrect the Hay Maxx rakes have patents and trademarks and are different from the Agri-Supply rakes. Many of the HAY MAXX rake models have parts and components manufactured in the USA.

Looked at your web pages again. If these are Hay Maxx rakes, then your Hay Maxx hay rakes (included the carted one) are exactly the same as in the pictures of Gxxxx hay rakes here I had taken a year ago or two. Maybe, you need to change rake pictures on your pages?

Thanks guys for the explanation of that weird looking rake. I've never seen one around here at all, but then I have never had to do any haying. Most folks I know do ploughing, but not hay. Sure is a strange looking critter. John
