Yanmer / Deere Engine

I am interested in rebuilding a deere 955 engine.
It has the 3TN84-RJ Yanmer installed. I thought somebody might know if it is possible to still find parts for it? Would it be a good idea to contact yanmer directly?

You'll probably not get the parts through YANMAR They were just the contract builder for the 955. You might try to contact member LMTC here. He has an aftermarket parts catalog that has some JD parts in it.

Parts should be available for it. Not many of the parts for the 955 are available from aftermarkets sources. I'm an authorized Yanmar tractor & industrial dealer. People call for JD parts from Yanmar . Sometimes they are cheaper than JD & sometimes they are not.

I count 32 hard parts in our aftermarket JD catalog, including hour meter cable, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust bearing set, connecting rod w/bushing, piston pin bushing, front crank seal, rear crank seal, head gasket, valve cover gasket, etc. Apparently not pistons or rings. And I can virtually guarantee we're less expensive than JD or Yanmar. We have sold JD aftermarket parts to numerous JD dealers, particularly for the original 50 series compacts which are apparently no longer well supported through the dealer network.

I realize the aftermarket parts catalog has many JD parts & some 955 parts. If the poster is going to overhaul the engine, he'll need to go to JD or Yanmar for some parts. In my experience, the aftermarket parts are not always less expensive. I compared some of the parts prices between JD & aftermarket. Some were cheaper & some were not, but not off by much. One part was a lot cheaper from JD. People can do their own research, I'm not going to post specific price comparisons.

When my tractor needs an overhaul, JD better have the parts for it or else I'm buying a kubota.
