Let’s see pictures of the toolbox and where it’s mounted on your Yanmar YM Series tractor.

I need some ideas. I would like to add a small one to my YM2500 for a rag, extra lynch pins, pliers, and a small punch.

Org. All the little stuff! Pins,Pliers etc.. Big Box to the 3Pt.. Seen one on a Quick Hitch. Easy to access and attach a big tool box to. Red box at the shifter.

For the vintage Yanmar machines, YM, F and FX, a few different OE tool boxes were used.

The first Tree Frog models all received the flat green tool box type.
As the models were refreshed to Red Apple machines, the green tool box was mounted somewhere on the frame, under the seat of in the rear area as the color was still an off-green.

I would like to thank the Japan tractor History Museum for the following images. These are the most details and in great shape I've ever seen on the internet. Today, these tool boxes are rusted out or tossed away.

I tired to zoom in to read the metric wrench sizes. The site has these in high resolution.

YANMAR right on the tools,

The first tool box like this showed up on the YM177 model. Only 2,000-ish machines were made. Very much like the YM173 and the YM273 models. These are the very first Yanmar tractors they made.

As the YM machines grew in size, options and Hp, the tool box went from green to a durable red HDPE plastic.

Some of the YM1700 and higher models had these.

Some models were given no tool box. Instead, the tools were wrapped in a roll-out pouch with two ties like shoe laces. I've hunted the web looking for such item, but not found. The Japan Tractor History Museum only mentions this with no images.

When you see a parts manual with just the tools show, they are typically wrapped in the pouch.

My guess it's sort of like this,

The models in YMxx20 received several upgrades and options. These models received the red full sized tool box.

Here we see the YM2620 with the toolbox mounting flanges and holes.

The mounting behind the seat continues from the larger YM models into the F and FX series.

When I went searching for a useful tool box, I picked the YM2620 size.
I got one for free from another Yanmar owner who blessed me with it for all the help given to others on the tractor sites. It was still the red faded color for being 40 years old.

After clean up, primer and then Yanmar red, it looks beautiful once again.

Here is an early Yanmar FX machine with OE tool box.

When these machines are export out of Japan, many of the tool boxes are removed and tossed.

For the extra 2 or 3-lbs to fill a shipping container to keep them for a dozen machines, I don't understand why they are tossed away.

For the YM2500, Travis found this in the YM2500/YM3000 manual. Held on with a single bolt. Not something I would like to have mounted that way.

IF you want a toolbox today, Yanmar still offers it! Ask for the YM336 toolbox.

Travis, when I got my YM2610, Fredricks has this tube on the side with the OPS manual inside.

Instead of the flimsy tube, what if you mounted a PVC one with end caps each side?

Even mount it under the floor!

Just like YANMAR, the Deere owners have the same setup.

You might get some ideas from these photos. Not as pretty as the preceding photos!

I cobbled a plastic toolbox onto the Quick Hitch for one project. I've thought about welding on an ammo can there. But anything there interferes with reaching down to engage a PTO driveshaft.

What I use presently is a wire basket zip-tied to the top of the loader control.

This photo of the temporary toolbox was before I welded a bar magnet along the top edge of the QH, for pins and clips while hitching up.

There is PVC pipe lashed to the left loader pedestal to carry a shovel, rake, hoe. Or my long handle pruner.

On the larger YM240 with ROPS I lashed on golf bags. More recently there are also small canvas shopping bags lashed to each upright using hose clamps, for water bottle etc.

This red bag carries two 8ft chains with their hooks engaged over the top lip. Plus whatever tool is needed that day. Often the long-handle pruner.

Some other DIY ideas,

NOTE, Do Not drill holes into the ROPS. It weakens the structure and will void Fredricks warranty. Likewise, it will remove liability from any ROPS offering manufacture too.

I should add that the YM240 has the same OEM small flat toolbox as Carey's photo (Post #2 above), on the transmission tunnel in front of the shifter.

Don't you guys ever take your gorgeous flawless tractors outdoors?

What a fun thread; I always found it cool Yanmar actually included tools in their toolbox.

Carey, this is exactly what I’m looking for and exactly where I want it mounted.

When I moved I had to clear out the shop of all my Yanmar goodies, I must of had over 100 lbs of yanmar wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers, along with the tire irons and crazy keychains with bells on them.
Not only that but I had to dispose of a dumpster partially filled with yanmar cabs, tiller bkts, red wheels, and 13 broken tillers.

California, I remember when the vietnamese tractors splashed on the scene, they gave everyone a tough time for a while, remember Buck from EFC?
He went to Japan to visit the vietnam suppliers, and took pictures of their tractors.

I still have Virginia with a finishing mower attached (FX235-D)

My wife called me the Yanmar horder! It was fun while it lasted..

Were 3-point rototillers slow sellers? I thought they should sell well.

Yes, I remember Buck's posts here. In particular, he said when visiting the Japanese salvage yards, buyers for the VN refurb factories might as well just turn a 20ft ocean can on end and pour in junk tractors and parts until it was full, to get whatever was needed to complete their 'rebuilts'.

Also Buck noted US buyers were a tiny part of the overall market for used tractors. As he was reviewing a row of trade-in tractors looking for choice ones, he said an Iranian(?) glanced around then said 'I'll take that row over there. Lets get lunch".

Did he select some for you? For Wayne? Or for Dave in NorCal?

I had a Japanese friend who would pick out our tractors, he negotiated the price down and picked the cream of the crop.
I would arrange shipping here to the states.
As far as the tools, I scraped them out to a recycler, along with all the tillers. All the tractors and parts went to Hoyes.

Its to bad Yanmar lowered the boom on the imports, it was fun while it lasted.
