Yanmar tiller

I bought a 1301 in the spring and got my first chance to put it to work today. My last attempt to till, I raised the tiller binding the PTO shaft and broke the universal. I cut down a new one this weekend and also made a shorter toplink out of an old piece of steel. It tilled really well but I have a couple of questions.

I tilled a fairly level piece of ground and ended up with some valleys that tilling again didn't remedy. Was that a result of uneven speed?

Also, not having a shearpin really makes me nervous. Today I was moving super slow and it seems like a couple of roots and stones caused some pretty serious vibration back there.

Any suggestions, my biggest fear is damaging the tractors PTO.

I have four foot Yanmar tiller for about five years with no problems. The rear wheels leave tracks, but I just use the to plant rows. I kept the center link from my yanmar when I bought the Kubota and it fits perfectly.

I have found that since my tractor doesn't have draft control that the tiller does the opposite of the front wheels. However, I don't recall having any real valleys except at the end of passes. I also usually cross till to help eliminate spots that are tilled shallow due to the front being "down".

To keep from binding up my pto shaft I made a "stop" which I put on my 3pnt control to keep from raising the tiller too high.

I don't have a shear pin or clutch either and have found that so far, knock on wood, it tends to simply climb or jump over obstacles.

I replaced my lift arms with a set approximately 6" longer and it corrected the PTO shaft binding problem . I can lift to maximum height without binding. I use my standard length arms for my RM 59 and rotary cutter.
