On my first YM186D I turned the exhaust horizontal to the front, with the tip pointing outward, to lower the tractor profile so I could mow under orchard trees. Always smelled exhaust. I think it was drawn into the radiator and fan.

When I got the second YM186D with loader, I left the exhaust upright because the loader arm shields all but the top few inches. For some reason this works better. I nearly never smell exhaust now while operating the tractor.

rScotty did you post that you ran with just vertical conduit pipe, no muffler? Isn't that deafening? How's your hearing now?

Ok , I changed oil yesterday. Added a lil service treatment to fuel. Ran it for a couple hours. No change(didn’t really expect it that soon) will run it some more. I am kinda leaning towards honeing and re ringing. Any advise on re ringing vs new sleeves and pistons?

I see it dripping on the ground.. Is it oil or water (condensation)?

Not offering advice as to overhaul but if you do I would recommend inspection of internals before buying new sleeves and pistons.

It is pure oil

I guess I will tear it down and check cylinder walls. Measure and see if I can just ring.

Ok not pure, I am sure it has some fuel in it as well from blowby

Assuming the thermostart is disconnected you see no difference?
