I have a Bobcat 3400XL with a Yanmar 3TNM72-APL engine. I picked this up at auction knowing it has a hole in the block. It looks like the engine mount took the side of the block out because the missing piece is attached to the engine mount (which is very loose), and the engine now sits cockeyed in the frame.

I have been trying to find a used engine for it, but keep finding ones that have different 3 letters at the end. I'm assuming those stand for things like constant speed, variable speed, etc. It appears the top end of my engine is good so is it possible to find a short or long block for these? The Bobcat is nearly mint and was government owned and very well taken care of so it is definitely worth fixing. I just need an engine...

What would you recommend? Or do you have any leads that would get me something I can work with? I'm fine with doing my own build or swapping parts, but I just don't know what 3 letters I can use!

Do you have the broken bits? Maybe a good welder could tig or braze it up?

Seems this engine tends to be frequently having issues.
