Fixedon66, I would say he is asking top dollar. The front half of the air cleaner is missing so the pre-cleaner is bypassed. I expect that loads up that filter element pretty quick and to me it indicates neglect.

Yours looks nicer than mine but I paid half that. (plus some initial renovation which I think you may have to do too.) Figure $750 ? for a ROPS, to start.

If you have 6 months to look around you can find one nicer with a loader on it for that price.

I would offer less and be ready to haggle. Just my advice; be sure to listen to others before deciding.

Fixedon66.........I thought I hit the send button but maybe not.....if this is a duplicate.....I apoligize. The ROP seems to be part of the original package for my tractor. It could be removed with some effort.....a very nice safety feature. As for the $5000......seems about right....I paid a little less but I also got a FEL. You might want to negociate a bit. I highly suggest you change all filters and fluids as mentioned by the folks in my original post. I found some water in my trans. fluid due to a bad filler cap. Also....oil in front axle was filty. Make sure to lube every fitting....there are lots. Check your trans. screen and clean. I have ordered a bunch of stuff from Hoye Tractor......great folks to deal with....very helpful....they have everything. They have the missing cap on your air filter. Good luck and enjoy your tractor.....the 186d seems toe a great little machine.

Thanks JerryBob & California! I've mapped out some farm equipment stores around the area and won't make a deal until I get a good idea of what else is available out there.

I don't see needing the equipment until early to mid summer since there are a couple horses on the land to do most of the mowing. From car buying experience, buying from an individual seems to be the most economical way to go. I just don't have many contacts in the farming community to get leads on tractors for sale so I don't want to pass up a reasonable deal only to not find anything better in the next few months.

California, you posted a great walk through of testing a 186D someplace here. I cut and pasted and plan to use it today. Thanks.

The YM186d is a great little tractor, but that one with the equipment seems a bit overused for the price. How are you at maintenace? Is doing tractor maintenance part of why you got the property - it was for me. Honestly. And I've had a few tractors and lived my life on property about like it looks like you are buying.
You will use your little utility tractor more than you can ever imagine at this point. GET A FRONT END LOADER! It will be the primary tool for you just like an old cowboy and his horse.. - and if you are not using as a tractor it will be carrying everything from groceries and hay bales to the tools for whatever job you are doing. You can't buy a new back, so save yours. A good tractor will last you a lifetime.
With all that in mind, I would rather see you spend twice the money and end up with a newer machine with a front end loader. Four wheel drive is a great advantage on any smaller lighter tractor. Implements are universal, and you can get them anytime and they fit any machine.

I agree with what CA said - I'd figure in the cost of a ROP - It likely has an Old battery in it that will need replaced etc etc.

If you are really sold on the unit, I'd proceed with "I'll give you your asking price on the tractor and you throw in the tiller and PHD.

No, I'm buying the land to enjoy and keep up the land, not the tractor. I've never even ridden a tractor so maintenance will not be easy. I'm pretty handy around the house and with cars but not diesel or tractors.

After visiting some dealers I'm very interested in no interest (pun intended) financing for a new tractor with a front loader, box blade and brush hog. I may see how the brush hog does on the grass around the house and decide if I want to buy a finish mower for that area. I can also keep a eye out for used over the next few months but with my lack of knowledge about tractors, it might be best to pay up front to get an education in USING a tractor and delay (hopefully) my education in maintaining one.

I'll let you know what happens. Obviously if I don't buy the Yanmar I might not find another one so I probably won't be hanging around this forum much longer. You guys have been a great help, though. Thanks again.

Lubrication. One point that I know of that several folks miss it the front axle pivot on the main frame under the engine.

It is often neglected, there is a zerk for both front and back bearings, be sure to check or they will be wiped out easily, especially with a loader on.

Yes, where are those? I looked all over the area from the underside and couldn't find them. Do you access them from the top (on floor of engine compartment)?

The front axle grees fittings on my 2wd yanmar 2000 are under the axle, if you go to the front of the tractor look under the axle engine area they either point foward on the front and back of the axle or face down, i cant remember. Yours may be busted off from running over trees or stumps?
