Lubrication. One point that I know of that several folks miss it the front axle pivot on the main frame under the engine.

It is often neglected, there is a zerk for both front and back bearings, be sure to check or they will be wiped out easily, especially with a loader on.

Well, I've certainly missed it. I've had a 276D for 2 years now and have yet to find those zerks. I have a manual and have found everything else.
I just looked again--no joy. A pic or any help would be greatly appreciated.

My YM240 (2wd) has obvious zerks at the front and back bushings supporting the axle-center hinge.

When I got my YM186D I asked this question, and was told that the bushings are sealed with internal gear oil slopped up there.

On a 186 (2 wd) there is a grease fitting on the side of the pin bushings in the axle. The 186D does not seem to have a grease fitting that I can find, but the 1510, 1510D has a grease fitting in the end of the center pivot pin. Another difference between the 186 and 1510?:D

186D has a bushing with o-rings . Pin and bushing are splash lubricated from the differential. Works great , no grease needed.

Well, the pin on my 276D looks lubed to me, so maybe it's lubed from the dif.
The manual says to grease it---Wouldn't be the first time a manual was wrong, however.
I love my 276D--does twice the work that my MF 65 did. 4x4 & 12f speed powershift make all the difference.:cool2:

Buppie is correct. I had the same question on my YM186D.
It is splash lubricated from the front diff.

Well.....it's been a couple of weeks and I took the advice many of you offered. My 186D has had all the fluids and filters changed. Found several issues....water in the trans. fluid.....gear oil that was very low and probably never changed.....fuel filter totally full of gunk.....very black engine oil and an oil filter that hasn't been off in years.....an oil leak in the front drive shaft/axle housing.......several broken grease fittings and others that hadn't had grease in years......broken head lights and a couple bad fuel lines. That's the bad news......the good news.....everything has been repaired and/or replaced. Hoye tractor has been great to deal with.....they had everything I needed. I have a few bruised knuckles and a bump or two on my head from putting in a new seal on the drive shaft....but most importantly......I have a nice little running tractor right now......looking forward to using it. Still have a little smoke.....I am using Power Service Diesel Kleen right now.....will use for a few tank fulls. Someday.....might have to do the rings.......not anywhere near that bad yet. Life is good!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

What color is the smoke? Is it running smoothly or crapping out at high RPM?

The smoke is light blue but it's not too bad. At start up.....I get some darker smoke......I've been told that's normal. After it warms up.....smoke goes away but under load......I see a little smoke. The tractor is running great....no loss of power or hestitation. I am thinking it's not too bad right now.....someday I might need to get into the engine but....hopefully....not for a long time. I've added some diesel kleen from power services......will run that for a few tanks. Any other suggestions?

No...not really. It sounds like it is running fine and what you are seeing is pretty much par. Old rings generally mean a loss of compression that results in hard starting long before they cause oil consumption. More commonly causes of small diesels burning some oil is a gasket leaking some oil into the fuel pump or sometimes worn valve guides. Most often though it is just whatever type of fuel you are burning. I've actually had good luck with diesel injector cleaners. Apparently they aren't all created equal so if that one doesn't do what you want try a different brand.

Another maintennace trick for older Yanmars having the combo fuel gauge/fuel cap is to drain the fuel tank out, dispose of the old fuel, and sop up the water and gunk that collects on the bottom of the tank with a sponge on a stick. Those combo fuel caps leak in the rain. You can get a rebuild kit with new gaskets for the cap - or just always cover it. Or both.
enjoy! rScotty

Thanks rScotty.......good tips. Knock on wood......with all the maintenence now completed......she's running pretty well right now. This is my first tractor.....having a lot of fun with it. I think I will drain the tank....see what's on the bottom. Thanks again.
