I didn't like using the front frame to tie down my tractor on my trailer as every time i torqued the binders, the frame tweaked. Being i am commercial i can't get away with JUST tying the front down by the loader. (DOT REGS) I have to tie the front, back, loader AND implement down. Made a couple of plates and welded chain hooks on them, then bolted them to the frame right over the axle where it is double thick. The one by the exhaust will be tight but the chain does fit......

Great idea I just did darn near the same thing.
Some people don't understand how important it is to have equipment properly tied-down.
Where do you put your chains in the rear?

I used bolt on D-rings up front and a twisted clevis on the back of my 3037.

George, When you torque down on them watch the frame tweak. I transport mine every day and i didn't like that idea.......

I only tighten my ratchet binders until the chains are taut and don't see the frame move at all. Is it possible you are over tightening yours if you see the frame tweaking? I know you have been hauling and securing loads for a long time but so have I (over 40 years) and never had a chain or strap loosen up.

On the front, I just put my chain across the front axle crisscrossing from the right side to tie down on the left. Torque it till the front tires start to squat. No frame twisting that way. If you are worried about scratching the axle paint, use a piece of fire hose or other softener material over your chain. On the rear, I tie into the drawbar mount rather than the drawbar, one on each side. This works for me and no adding on of pads or pad eyes.

My biggest concern was the rough roads i travel and the stress caused when the trailer twists and flexes. The tiedowns i installed are directly over the axle in the double frame area. I was able to flex mine with a 3/8 chain binder and no cheater pipe.....

Are you talking about tying across the axle pivot truss? I did that at 1st but that looked like a pretty weak area.....

I use axle straps from Northern Tool. The chains get nowhere near the paint.
