Well after checking out this site and getting great help from everyone, I bit the bullet and bought a x540 for my property. I used the JD website to recommend what type of machine would be right for my needs and it suggested the x500 series. It must have been fate but I found a slightly used x540, 12hrs 2 months old, on ebay. It was real close to my house so it worked out. I must say I am thrilled with its performance. My property is challenging to say the least and twice the differential lock really saved me. All in all I'd to thank all who responded to my initial post. I must admit I never thought I'd own a JD due to cost but now that I have one I couldn't be happier.
