Thanks for your condescension. It's not really the open carry attention ****** I worry about. It's the mentally disturbed young man who somehow legally obtains handguns and goes on a rampage. The NRA needs to be screaming for increased background checks on purchase - to do anything less is to promote these types of incidents.

>>You have to train for scenarios you believe could happen...you pray they don't but not wanting to gamble with my families lives...I choose to be prepared for any eventuality no matter how unlikely...<<

While I'm sure you put in training on a daily basis and your reflexes are that of a 20 year old, others may not be, and likely aren't. And so you're prepared for an RPG attack, drone strike, ninja surprise? All that training and preparation must be exhausting...

Also, and again I haven't done the research, but I don't believe it's safe gun practice to have a chambered round in the gun you carry in your pocket. You are asking for trouble.

You're totally wrong. I'm surprised you are married to a woman who own/trains with a firearm. You talk like a gun control liberal, and admit you haven't done the research.

Again, crimes are usually committed with ILLEGALLY OBTAINED WEAPONS. The Newtown school shooting, one of the worse in the country, ILLEGALLY OBTAINED WEAPONS! The FBI doesn't keep statistics on the rifle make/model used in homicides because the numbers are too small.

The liberals love to say "common sense gun control" and yet ignore the common sense that criminals don't care about gun control. Or magazine limits. Or background checks. Or mental health. :mur: Don't know why I'm wasting my time.

I agree and I have always thought the guy openly carrying a weapon was just begging to be the first one shot by a bad buy....Think about it ...if you were a bad guy going to rob a store and you saw a guy with a gun on his side...wouldn't you shoot him first..?...LOL

Agree. Open carry is foolish. Like painting a target on your back. Or carrying a sign that says "Shoot me first". Cops/ex-cops understand this. They spent enough hours being a potential target.

Fireman, now hold on there a minute, whippersnapper. Ye done gone to meddlin' when ye made that over 60 remark. Here's one over 60 old boy who'll make an invader into me home WISH I was moving 10 times slower! Unless he has something that barks over yonder but bites over here, he's gonna leave in pain. If he leaves.

I will be 60 later this year... I am starting to worry!

You are sadly mistaken, this is not fear, it is the initiative. Taking responsibility for one's own safety. You want to know real peace ? Carry a 45 under your shoulder, you won't have a care in the world...

"You carry a gun? What are you afraid of?"

"Nothing."

So how many of you "prepared for anything" strap a fire extinguisher to your hip and throw on a life jacket everyday? Hard hat? I mean, you never know right? I ALWAYS wear safety shoes! You have to take the initiative and be responsible for your own safety right?
Don't fool yourself, it's totally about fear and imagining your a hero in some fantasy scenario.

Its not "criticizing and ridiculing" to discuss the loss in civility that brandishing a lethal weapon creates. Of course there are manyl situations where people can carry guns around and not experience a loss in civility. Hunting, for example, or shooting targets, showing a new purchase, but not up-front when "people visit".

People will simply stop visiting, and then there you are, in a lonely world, reading shocking news on the internet, making up protection scenarios & raising little psychopaths that others are inclined to arm against. It's a death spiral for our country, don't kid yourself.

I think people were much more civil 50 years ago, they had guns back then too, and losers, but didn't have the internet stirring everyone up. This is because people type solo on the internet. It wouldn't come to this real life. (JMHO of course)

I couldn't agree more; however the manner in which you address the other parties can range from respectful to arrogant contempt. I prefer the former, or perhaps if the situation dictates, something in between.

Don't fool yourself, it's totally about fear and imagining your a hero in some fantasy scenario.

I wear steel-toes when working with firewood, Hard hat when cutting trees, chainsaw chaps with the chainsaw and yes, I wore a life vest when I went fishing yesterday. I try to be prepared for what might reasonably happen.

I don't imagine I'm a hero. And anyone who has worked with me will tell you I don't "live in fear". I don't want to ever have to level a gun at anyone. But we have a saying, I'd rather have a gun and not need one, then need a gun and not have one.

It looks like you live in a nice area. I live in a nice area. I think we'll both be fine. BTW, most people in my neighbor hood worry more about running into a bear in the yard than a badguy.

I always wonder when I hear about this kind of situation....is there more to the story than is first told? At first blush, it seems that home owner answers very early morning door knock, is attacked by unknown stranger at close knife range for no reason but has pistol in hand and manages to shoot the attacker.

Of course, when attacked, you have the right to self defense and having a gun in the hand is a good start to remove the threat.

Why did attacker pick that particular house?
Was attacker really a stranger to the home owner?
Why was attacker armed with knife and prepared to stab home owner when door was opened, apparently immediately??

Of course, these things are neither logical nor reasonable, thus do not easily yield to logic and reason.

I once found a body dumped on my ranch. Only reason it was on my place was that once the girl was shot in a car, my place was the next easiest place to get to to dump her out. I didn't run into them while they were there, but, if I had, having a weapon might have been required for my own protection.

I will say that having a front pocket carry weapon, with CCL, actually gives me an answer to the question, "what do I do now?" if a threat ever develops.

No need to bluster, brandish or bully...never have, never will. The choice is mine if a threat presents. I can run, hide, comply with requests, or respond with deadly force depending on the situation. And, until I expose the firearm, nobody knows I have that option...it's my secret...and that secret is my unexpected advantage in a threatening situation. Thankfully, I've only had to face rattle snakes and varmints when using the pistol, so far. May it stay that way!

By the way, I fancy I'm a common sense straight shooting gun toting 70 yr old liberal who stays prepared. Fire extinguisher rides in my RTV along with my KelTec SU16 223 semi automatic for coyotes and hogs. Just so you know.
