I am extremely frustrated and don't want to vent to my family so I am doing it here. Gotta be cheerful and optimistic around the family. I am afraid this constant dizziness and vertigo will be permanent and I will end up sitting on my constantly growing rear end and watching soap operas for the rest of my life. I have always kept the one acre lot we live on in tip top shape and have done nothing this year.

As part of the 'therapy' for my ongoing inner ear problems I was instructed to walk two miles a day "rain or shine". Before all this started I could make it in forty minutes. Takes me fifty minutes now. Yesterday while going up a slight incline the ground suddenly tilted down to the left and I staggered to the right and nearly took out a neighbor's mailbox, while on foot. The 4x4 it was mounted on must have been weak anyway and I made it weaker. I will fix it for her when I get a little better. Yep you read that right I collided with a mailbox while walking and nearly took it down. If it hadn't been there I would have been face down in the side ditch. I hung on to that mailbox for a while and the ground suddenly snapped back level and I made it back to the house.

We couldn't take our fall vacation this year because I am not allowed to drive. Wife, daughter, and granddaughter wouldn't let me get on the roof and clean out the gutters. They had to be cleaned out because the screens over them were piled up with leaves and a crew is coming to paint the house next week. So the daughter called a teacher friend in the neighborhood that she used to work with and he came and cleaned them. It was embarrassing to me. Cannot help son it law clear a thicket because they won't let me run a chainsaw. I am allowed to drive my little Kioti and the Bad Boy. Granddaughter took me to Lowes and wouldn't let me get out of arms reach because she was afraid I would fall. Can't walk thru the house without bouncing off walls and door facings.

I am frustrated!!

Falls kill. It takes out the olds better than anything.

Trust your family on this. Trust but verify the doctors and their diagnosis. Prognosis on this is good, just need to find the underlying cause. I know, easier said than done.

Sorry to hear of your situation and understand the frustrations. I lost a lot of balance after my back surgery in January, but am gaining it back through exercise and training. Asking people for help is not in our nature, however, it's sometimes required.

I understand that's not what you're going through. Dizziness and vertigo suck. I've had inner ear issues several times, and when the world spins fast enough, you go down.

Have they pinpointed a cause and is there a resolution in the future?

I'm sorry that you're going through this. I don't have any knowledge of what you are going through, but I do have a lot of experience working for people that have had to hire me to fix things for them around their homes that they used to do all the time themselves.

I know it bothers them to spend money to have it done, but I respect the fact that they still want it done regardless of how their health is. A lot of the time I'm told by these clients is how important it is to them that the house is in good condition for their wife or their kids.

By the time I'm done, we've become friends and I get texts from them afterwords to keep in touch and how they are looking forward to me coming back and doing more things for them.

From what I've experienced, my first day there is usually a little awkward, but once things start getting done, and the client is happy with the results, the negative feelings about having to hire me goes away.

When life is out of your hands, all you can do is make the best of the ride that you are on.

Sorry to hear you're going through this, Vertigo is no fun period.

My grandfather expressed similar frustrations. Sometimes just getting him from the truck to a chair was all he could do. However, we always gave him a walking stick and he certainly had a voice. His wealth of decades of DIY experience certainly helped us young bucks doing the job. Maybe it's time to consider being more of a supervisor than a worker?

I would recommend a sturdy walking stick that you can lean on if it strikes again. The most important thing you can do is keep moving! It doesn't matter how long it takes, just that you keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Pulling for you!

I’m really sorry to hear you aren’t doing well.

FWIW… I am a grandchild in a somewhat similar situation. They’re in their 80s and mobility isn’t what it used to be. I hate taking from their independence, however I worry fiercely that if something were to happen, it could be fatal if nobody’s around.

I’m a pain sometimes, but it’s cause I love ‘em.

Your kids and grandkids probably feel the same way.

Hoping you feel better, NJ

Sorry to hear RSKY, I hope the dr can get to the root of this.
Do they have any idea what's causing it?

Keep your head up!

Really, It helps overcome vertigo.
Plus it does wonders for your attitude about yourself.

Head UP, shoulders back, eyes ahead! Go get all the life you can!

Surprisingly "just venting" is what we need sometimes!

I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties.

I also would recommend a sturdy walking stick while walking ... And look around and maybe see if there might be a place to "take a break" while out, a safe place to just sit for 5 minutes and see the world go by ... :)

Oh boy, yes never easy to ask for help or let others due what you have been doing for all your life. However, it is the right thing to do until you get over your issue as getting injured is only going to be worse for you and the ones you love.

I'm trying to remember your issue, was it the crystals in your ear that are misaligned?
