I've had vertigo issues twice in my life due to some inner ear infection, but nothing as significant as what it sounds like you are dealing with. And that was no fun at all for me, so I can empathize. It was weeks of not being right and it sucked! Hopefully they can pin it down and fix it for you. Getting old is difficult, for sure...

I'm sorry that you're going through this. I don't have any knowledge of what you are going through, but I do have a lot of experience working for people that have had to hire me to fix things for them around their homes that they used to do all the time themselves.

I know it bothers them to spend money to have it done, but I respect the fact that they still want it done regardless of how their health is. A lot of the time I'm told by these clients is how important it is to them that the house is in good condition for their wife or their kids.

By the time I'm done, we've become friends and I get texts from them afterwords to keep in touch and how they are looking forward to me coming back and doing more things for them.

From what I've experienced, my first day there is usually a little awkward, but once things start getting done, and the client is happy with the results, the negative feelings about having to hire me goes away.

When life is out of your hands, all you can do is make the best of the ride that you are on.
I need to find someone like you up here in my area.
I've tried hiring "handy men" around here and haven't found one worth a damn yet. I have a "contractor" at this time that I like personally but he is completely unreliable.

@RSKY and @dstig1, I have had vertigo once really bad. I was alone in the house and had to call 911 becuase I needed their help. Couldn't open my eyes because of the dizziness. Hospital had therapy for me next day. That helped me to start to recover. When I was discharged they had some exercises to do at home. But I had to use a walker in the house and then a cane as I got better. It took a few weeks to feel better. But I still watch my sudden movements while twisting. Vertigo and/or dizziness SUCKS. Hope doctors can help with the situation, but the family has to hear your feelings. Good luck. Jon

I've had vertigo a few times, sometimes so bad as to throw up. No fun and I feel for ya man. Today when I work on my back, I'd get up and have it. I'd keep up with whatever the medical pro's are prescribing. I need to hire things done these days as well.......

Getting dizzy used to be fun. Even in my early 30's I would roll down a grassy hill with the kids and try to stand up.

But at our age, it's no fun. I hope the Dr.'s get it fixed up for you quickly and cheaply.

I suffer from vertigo on occasions also but seems to be related to inner ear problems. A friend from work was having vertigo really bad, had to crawl to bathroom. Doctor he went to did therapy to align crystals in his ears. After 3-4 treatment it went away Seems like they had him stand next to a bed and fall back on bed. That sounded odd to me but he said it worked for him.

Greetings RSKY,
I have had vertigo for over 3 decades. When I first got dizzy I would fall out of chairs. I know exactly what you mean about the road tilting. Fortunately for me I don't get motion sickness. Now on to what can help. I use a walking stick as kind of an outrigger. It really helps. Two walking sticks can be better but I don't need two. I have become accommodated to being dizzy and walking sideways like dogs do sometimes. Still, I now use a carbon fiber collapsible walking stick, this one: https://www.amazon.com/Cascade-Moun...7100&sprefix=carbon+fiber,aps,166&sr=8-3&th=1
I do not like the smaller tips for the sticks so I bought larger tips at the hardware store for about a buck fifty and glued them over the smaller tips. I used some UV setting glue and it worked great. The UV setting glue allowed me to use a lot of glue to fill in any empty spaces but it didn't set until I use the little UV LED that comes with the glue. There is a carbide tip in the end of each stick which keeps them from being carried onto a plane so I pulled them out with a vise and some tugging. I love my carbon fiber sticks because they are so light and easily adjustable. And they really help me keep my balance. That extra outrigger support makes a huge difference. I hope I helped some. As far as actually curing vertigo I have no advice. Over the decades I have tried everything. No Help. So I just got used to it. And walk like I'm drunk. Folks look at me funny but I am way past that.
Eric

RSKY, I have had deal other being worried about me. I am the oldest in my neighborhood. But am the most likely to be the person to assist with helping. Put a metal roof on my garage with the help of my closest neighbor. Was not allowed by him or any others to get on the roof. Was plenty of things to do on the ground. It’s hard to accept that we shouldn’t be doing things that we have done all our lives. Try to follow the concerns that others express. They can see things that you do not see.
Like ArlyA if I lay under anything for awhile working on it. There will be a dizzy spell. Seem like minutes to recover. But probably seconds. I prepare for this now when getting up.
Some very good suggestions from others on how to be prepared for another event in the future.
Hope Drs come up with a cure for your condition soon.

I am extremely frustrated and don't want to vent to my family so I am doing it here. Gotta be cheerful and optimistic around the family. I am afraid this constant dizziness and vertigo will be permanent and I will end up sitting on my constantly growing rear end and watching soap operas for the rest of my life. I have always kept the one acre lot we live on in tip top shape and have done nothing this year.

As part of the 'therapy' for my ongoing inner ear problems I was instructed to walk two miles a day "rain or shine". Before all this started I could make it in forty minutes. Takes me fifty minutes now. Yesterday while going up a slight incline the ground suddenly tilted down to the left and I staggered to the right and nearly took out a neighbor's mailbox, while on foot. The 4x4 it was mounted on must have been weak anyway and I made it weaker. I will fix it for her when I get a little better. Yep you read that right I collided with a mailbox while walking and nearly took it down. If it hadn't been there I would have been face down in the side ditch. I hung on to that mailbox for a while and the ground suddenly snapped back level and I made it back to the house.

We couldn't take our fall vacation this year because I am not allowed to drive. Wife, daughter, and granddaughter wouldn't let me get on the roof and clean out the gutters. They had to be cleaned out because the screens over them were piled up with leaves and a crew is coming to paint the house next week. So the daughter called a teacher friend in the neighborhood that she used to work with and he came and cleaned them. It was embarrassing to me. Cannot help son it law clear a thicket because they won't let me run a chainsaw. I am allowed to drive my little Kioti and the Bad Boy. Granddaughter took me to Lowes and wouldn't let me get out of arms reach because she was afraid I would fall. Can't walk thru the house without bouncing off walls and door facings.

I am frustrated!!

RSKY

Oh boy, yes never easy to ask for help or let others due what you have been doing for all your life. However, it is the right thing to do until you get over your issue as getting injured is only going to be worse for you and the ones you love.

I'm trying to remember your issue, was it the crystals in your ear that are misaligned?
RSKY...Are you doing the Epley Maneuver to get the crystals moved? This is a good video showing what is happening. Do on both sides and be sure you take your time so the crystal moves.

You didn't mention what you've tried.

Find someone who can help you with the Epley Maneuver. It is a series of head movements to park inner ear crystals in a place that doesn't bother you. You can do it yourself, or a family member may be able to assist.

However, you might first try a physician that is very familiar with it. Perhaps a DO/Chiropractor.
