Minntac Mine bound empties hustle and smoke around the curve at Highland MN. The student engineer was doing a good job making the trio burp for the camera. October 20th 2024.
Here's a little Plymouth locomotive here in South Bend, located at Kuert Concrete. It used to be South Bend Sand and Gravel. I saw this operate alongside a steam engine they had when I was a kid in the early to mid 60's. They'd haul sand and gravel out of the pit about 1/2 mile away to the cement plant. There used to be an engine shed, and if you drove by it at night, you could see the fire glowing in the box of the steam loco. The steamer went away and this little diesel took over until they switched to two haul trucks. Then this sat in the pit for a while, along with the shovel to the left, and they eventually brought them up front for display.
Vulcan c/n 3313 built 11/22 for Sturm & Dillard at Columbus, Ohio as number 100. Sold to South Bend Sand & Gravel in South Bend, Indiana in 1946. Later displayed at Machinery & Supply Company in MIshawaka, IN. Later given to a park in Swanson Heights in South Bend, IN. It became a liability as kids playing on it got hurt. It was sold to Grand Pacific Junction where it sits today.

Continuing the theme of small green locomotives, I give you EMD SW1500 BN 58 photographed in Harlem, MO 1985. Maybe this should be in "you know you are old" when your rail photo collection includes roads that don't exist anymore (under the same name).
