You guys seem to like the engine photos so here is another. Along a great lakes shipping photo as well. Looks like the harbor has some ice on it. That is winter pellets storage you see in the background.

The older style cabs are so much better looking that the newer safety/comfort cabs.
Then there was another SD40-2 variation that only UP had, the "Snoot."

DMIR 174 appears to be switching cars of scrap in Proctor Yard MN in June of 1974. Since they don't add scrap to pellets, this photo confuses me.

Much of the scrap looks like bridge parts. Maybe a dismantled RR bridge to be sent off the property.

That was my thought before seeing your post. A work train, some sort of cleanup in the right-of-way.

Ore or pellet cars are small. Seems its to fit over dock pockets or some mechanical reason for that.

They come off the conveyor red hot and loaded to cars asap. In many of the pellet car photos they are steaming.

We have a local short line railroad here that is still in operation, started in 1917 I think. You can't tell by the picture but there is some high ground they are climbing is why the switchbacks. The Apache Railway. I can't remember, maybe I already posted this,

This is a cool little guy. The owner is building a mini Disney Land western theme park. He has a mile of rail for it, 24 gauge I think he said. It will be for tourists to ride and also to harvest his grapes and Lavender. There will be wine and Lavander made goodies for sale.​

Someone asked about pellet plants so here is a few photos of them. My father-in-law refurbished the roller mills as seen below. Like everything in the world of steel, these plants are huge. The mills he work in were over 30ft long.
