Well, I've finally finished installing 2 forward working lights (50W trapezoid) on the ROPS using 'U' bolts. Wires are held with tie-wraps. Lights come on with the key in the 'acc' position and by toggling an additional switch installed in the dash. The wiring goes through one of the spare fuse location.

My first test drive was OK but I was swarmed with bugs and there was a lot of reflections in my glasses /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. If my head is behing the lights or putting a tilley hat prevents the glare but I'm still left with the bugs.

Did anyone tried to add the lights to the fixed vertical left and right frame of a loader (the one almost in line with the steering wheels), with an extension attached to the frame to raise the lights high enough ?
If so, is this location far enough not to be bothered by bugs ?
If this solution works please let me know. Although I do not plan to remove the loader, I would use quick-connect plugs for the wiring.

Amen!!!! Just finished doin' the same thing with the same results. On the other hand, a hat does prevent the glare on my glasses, and the main purpose for my lights was to assist when shoveling snow at night -- not too many bugs out then!

The lights will draw bugs, no matter where on your tractor you mount them.
Mine are mounted on the canopy, out in front of me, above my head and I to have the bug swarm problem.
But as was stated, my lights will be used mostly in the late fall and winter and the only bug dumb enough to be out, will be me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was going to add lights and then everyone said BUGS will swarm. I live in a part of Indiana where mosquitoes are a real problem and just figured I'd go in when the sun went down.

And then I thought of using YELLOW lights on the ROPS. I have not done it yet, but I have yellow lights on my porch and they do not attract the bugs.

Has anyone switched their lights for yellow FOG LAMPS from the auto parts store to see what happens?

The yellow light thing sounds like a good idea.
Plus, would match my tractor!!

To cut the glare I made a shade from the thin black foam that lines toolbox drawers. Cut a 'D' shaped piece and anchor it to the circumference of the light on it's vertical axis with a long wormgear clamp. If the lamp is rectangular you have to do a little bending of the clamp. Put it on the side of the lamp closest to you so it sticks out 4-6''. If you happen to hit it with your head or face it's forgiving. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I doubled the foam to make it stiffer against the wind and it gives you more for the clamp bite on.

Yes, but without an extension. They are on the stationary part of the loader frame. The frame bolts are used to hold small angle brackets I made for the lights..........................chim

I don’t know if yellow fog lights will stop the bugs. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But here is a thread from July on the same subject. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: magnetic lights

What a great idea!

By following your post, I noticed that some people bought their light/magnet kit at Wallmart.
I wonder if these magnet/light kits are strong enough to mount vertically, without having the lights sliding down the post as you drive ?

Since mine are already mounted with 'U' bolts, I also like RCH's idea of bloking the lights on the side facing your face with a piece of material long enough to shade the side of your face.

For now, I will use a tilley hat or something equivalent for winter.

I will keep the magnetic lights in mind if I decide to move mine or add more.
