We have Kawa Mule with three cylinder engine. It is new with approaching only 20 hours ready for first oil change. We like it a lot. It has selectable all wheel drive, locking differentials, power steering and winch. It is not the fastest thing though. It looks like it is governed just above 30 mph. Otherwise it can climb pretty steep slopes even without locked differentials. But here is the problem. We bought our place to keep us mean and lean in retirement but now we drive to places where we used to walk to like veggie garden, to mail box, to back 40ty, to the shed, to mulberry tree etc.
You will be glad you saved those steps when you get older. Those hips and knees can only take so much walking and then they wear out like mine have. I use my Kubota RTV900 most of the time for short trips just to save my joints from movement. Both hips and both knees (according to my doctor ) need to be replaced. Right now I just endure the pain and try to keep going for as long as I can. I have had too many surgeries already and will just endure as long as possible. The Kubota helps a bunch with that.

I'm not sure walking is bad for everyone.

One of the specialties at the hospital where I work is ortho pain management.

Walking with proper shoes is generally considered to be very good as opposed to running or jogging.

Running is high impact and the larger one is the more stress on the joints.

I had to give up running (ran XC in high school and college) in my mid 30s because I could tell I was beating myself up. Switched to cycling which is much easier on the joints and actually easier on me in the summer heat as well. It's a pity, because I used to enjoy running for fun and in local 5K races. But I just saw more and more issues as I got older.

I was never a runner but I cycled a lot until I got a "real job". Now I am retired but still working on our hobby farm, my shop and once a while for my former employer when they are short on people. I still can, knocking on wood, hike more than 20 miles or bike 100 a day.

Mom has slowed down now that she is in her 80's... that said, she can still walk 5 miles through the Redwoods or the PNW without issue... must have been all that walking she did as a child... they had no car until after she left home and her brother bought one... getting around the farm and to town was all on foot or ski in the winter.

Thanks for asking... yee did...

Picked up a used one owner Kubota RTV900 with 430 hours... guy used it around his property... had to go about 300 miles roundtrip to get it.

So far so good... did order the hand throttle kit which should help with it's only shortcoming...

We have some very steep hills and from factory the only way to get the throttle up is to step on the pedal which with hydro can take away power.

So the hand throttle is supposed to let you increase engine speed irrespective of pedal position... the way my Kubota tractors work with a hand throttle.

Been on the road this week and Oregon and Washington dealers have great inventories on the lot... both Kubota and Deere and even Cabelas has their version.

Wish it would be the same in the SF Bay Area... who wants to order one new from a catalog sight unseen?

Congratulations!! Now you will soon begin to wonder how you ever got anything done before having it!!!

I've been reading this thread the last few days. I'm looking for a UTV. I am torn between new and used. I haven't seen too many values in the used arena. Use will be moving things around the farm. I think it would be incredibly handy to have the A UTV to carry tools and seed and other things around.
I saw a 2005 bobcat 2200 online today at a local dealer. Gas. 1023 hours. Asking price is 4200. I'm not looking for speed I'm looking for something to get more work done. Any thoughts?

We have a neighbor that couldn't be happier with his single cylinder gas Deere Gator...

Does a lot of work for him... he is all flat so not having 4wd or 4 wheel brakes is not an issue...

We have very steep slopes and tried his... it just slid down the trails with the rear wheels locked.

We have had a gas and later a diesel. Great work machines, all aluminum frame and automatic four wheel drive and locking differentials, if needed. It is made for Bobcat by Club Car.

Thanks for the info, Xfaxman. Did you have any issues with it? Is there anything I should be on the lookout for?

I called the dealer to ask about it. He said it was a trade in two weeks ago. Supposed to have belonged to two women who bought it used.
