I use 75-140 synthetic in everything
But I do live in ca where it's hot then hotter

The Owners Manual for my 1976 Woods M5-4 Rotary Cutter says to use #90 transmission oil (also called gear oil).

There are better gear oils now, plus they have a wider viscosity range. 75w-90 would be a good choice. It flows at low temperature a lot like 20w motor oil, but has the shear resistance of a 90wt gear oil.

75-140 is gear oil just use the synthetic pricey but worth the money
They sell in 80 90 weight also
But use what you are comfortable with

older mower seals might be at risk with full synthetic having used dyno all it's life, but that may well be a myth for modern synthetics
but agree, 75/180 syn would cover all the needs, regards
