won't start

I ran out diesel, I bled the system and the engine turns over, the local new Holland store said to spray a little starter fuel in it. After that when turning the starter it has a thud in the sound an turns over. The fuel gauge will show full, but when it is empty it shows 3/4 full. I need help with both things....

Was the this sound from the engine block?

For the fuel gauge the float may be stuck in the tank

Corfed, Yes the sound appears to be from the block.... it did this after the starter spray was added.

I'm shooting in the dark here friend but starting fluid and an engine with a glow plug is asking for dangerous detonation and you might have damaged something in the top end.

Or possibly the bottom end...............may have blown a piston out. I can't believe a dealer would tell him to put ether to an engine with glow plugs............without instructions on how to bypass the glow plug circuit.

A compression test needs done right away..................before anything else is done.
