Women

People of the WW2 generation and before married quickly to avoid knocking up a woman outside of marriage. Fornication use to be frowned upon.
I should have married my wife within 6 months instead of 2 years if you get my drift.
Well, that wasn't the case with my folks. Nor the case with my wife and I.

Another thing I discovered about my wife and me...if there is more than one way to do something, we will pick different ways. Once in awhile this is beneficial. Usually, it leads to confusion or unnecessary arguments as one of us is trying to explain our method to someone who sees the problem much differently.

Think of those pictures where some people see A and others see B. We always see the opposite.
Duck or rabbit?

A drinking buddy of mine is looking for a "friend" to hang around with... not marriage. Not much luck, but funny stories.

One of the girls asked, after the no marriage plan, "...then how could I get half your SS??" The date ending shortly after that...

He's been "retired" since his early 40's and "his" money is just that... his!
One of the many problems with SocSec. If they are unmarried and he dies, she gets nothing and his SocSec he paid in goes to the government. If they get married, she would get the greater of her own SocSec or his. The 'death benefit' is negligible. At least married it doesn't all go to the government.

It's not like he or his adult kids would get anything after he dies.

If my wife goes first, I'm going to marry the youngest legal one that will have me. She can keep drawing the SocSec I earned. I'd rather she gets it than the government.

You might be right, or you have not lost half of your net worth...yet. A pre-nuptial agreement is not romantic but necessary IMO. Especially if you are older had have amassed some wealth.

If I was to "hitch up" to a woman with a high net worth I would want a pre-nupt to protect her and make it clear her money is not what I am after.
My ex got around $600,000.00. I was left with $135,000 and my freedom. My Harley was very expensive. Twenty years later I realize she got the short end of the stick.

My renter married late in life to an over the road truck driver and they had a full good year and she saw a lot of the country as he was owner operator.

He then was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and did not make it to their second anniversary.

He also had military pension.

Being married was not enough…

I don’t know if length of time factored.

On the same topic a 67 year old retired military married a 24 year old in the Philippines and had a son… his only child.

He registered the birth and applied for US Passport as they planned a trip stateside… heart attack and died…

His 1 year old son is getting survivor benefits… don’t know if she is or not.
