My wife and I occasionally sleep in separate bedrooms. But its the D (dog) that usually runs one of us out of the bedroom

My renter married late in life to an over the road truck driver and they had a full good year and she saw a lot of the country as he was owner operator.

He then was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and did not make it to their second anniversary.

He also had military pension.

Being married was not enough…

SocSec is intended to only pay out half of what you pay in. They originally copied what the Reich had in place using 65 as the retirement age. That was the average life expectancy at the time. So, half of people (roughly) would never collect. People live longer now.

I had heard 10 years and also something different regarding military pensions…

I know some that elected full pension with no spousal and they outlived everyone so good choice.

Also knew a few that passed early and the widow had to drastically downsize because 2/3 income gone.

The fellow with the one year old in the Philippines that passed suddenly previously told me getting a passport for his son was very important in case something happened to him… he would have the peace of mind his son would have income to adulthood…

I am beginning to think that two alphas in the same house is mostly the problem. My parents stayed together till dad died, then I took care of mom. She always let me make the decisions and it worked, like it worked for them.

Funny, my girlfriend always comes to me when she has an issue. She is a dominant sort until something is amiss, then I have to fix it.

I guess I don’t understand how people think living together is different than marriage unless the “commitment” scares them and they think the problems are different without that commitment.

Communication is the difficult key to making a relationship work especially since women are Venus and men from Uranus.

WE have been married for 23 years and have had our disagreements, but every Friday night is date night. If we are tied up on Friday I try to take her out on Another night. It has worked well fore us, plus we are friends and enjoy each other's company. I have told her several times that I have had a bad marriage and now a good one and I know the difference. I thank God for her every day.

Not quite the same yet I've worked with guys who are the same way. They know everything until it goes south... then look to me to lead the way out. Not so much now but when I was landscaping or doing R/W maintenance that seemed to be how it was.
