WINTERIZING BUSHHOG

My 6 foot RC has slip clutch and will be enjoying the outdoor weather over the winter. To prevent slipclutch from rusting frozen over the winter, would it be helpful to loosen SC bolts a lot and spray plates with WD40 or something preventatively??

I havent had any luck with WD 40 preventing rust in a dry environment much less outside. I dont know if I would put any kind of oil base on the slip clutch. Loosening off the tension might not be a bad idea. As long as they dont seize together a little rust wont hurt it, you will peel that off when it slips when readjusting it next spring. OF course that is just my opinion

I have kept my bush hog outside for years but I keep a tarp over it. Before I drop it I scalp the area where I am going to drop it and spray it with some household insecticide I have on hand - don't know if that helps I just want to discourage critters or spiders and such from taking up residence - then I drop and cover it and in the spring I service it and all has been well for years.

Why not just take the clutch off and put it in the garage or basement? As for that it may be a good idea just to take off the whole pto shaft and clutch and store out of the weather then cover the BH itself with a tarp.

One thing of make sure of is that water cannot accumulate in the blade holder/stump jumper. I put a plastic bucket over the driveshaft and tarp the whole thing. I too use fluid film to coat things that might rust.
