Winter Projects?

Looks like I get to put in a new clutch this winter. The loader finally took it's toll on it. Other than that, everything else is still working fine on it.

On changing to stainless steel bolts they might not be as strong as graded steel #5 SAE which is 3 </ . I have found them to gall if they are removed under torque and reused. I also feel they are more brittle than graded steel. For sheet metal great, but for holding the real parts on I would use only SAE graded I do not like spinning shafts chasing me.
I might be wrong on the grading of S.S.

For just grading the driveway, the yanny does a great job. But i need something more in the lines of a skid steer to do the work I have. I want to be able to split mass quantities of firewood, do some serious land clearing and leveling in the areas where we cut down numerous trees, defiantly stump removal and clearing heavy snow. I have used a skid steer in place of the yanmar for a day and the amount of work I got done was incredible. Nothing against the Yanmar, I just need something with better lift capacities, more maneuverability, and more hp. If i have enough $ I would keep my yanny but skid steers aren't cheap.

Will need to change oil this season. Had knee surgery last spring and did no maintenance.

I dont really have a project in mind on the tractor I am caught up on everything but my final drive noise. I will take that job on in spring when I am not needing to blade snow or till just give me a couple months window to accomplish that task parts avail etc.

I modified my post hole digger recently to fit the Yanmar and I mounted one of those 350# harmonic balancers I used for wheel weights on top of it.

The last 2 weekends I have built a 6' x 120' wood picket privacy fence next door at my garden property and man does that digger dig its like drilling in butter. :thumbsup:

I was thinking just what your last sentence was. a used Skidsteer is in the 15K range give or take 5k depending upon how beatit is. And dont those fire wood processors for the bobcats cost like 30k? Seriously that will never pay for itself for personal use, you would need to sell several cords a week to pay for that i would think. Also i dont think a skid steer can efficiently dig stumps out, can it?

For firewood, I could make a log splitter for around $1000 which would be operated from inside the cab. For stump removal, I would get or make a backhoe that would also operate from inside the cab, It would be identical to my grandpa's backhoe : Skidsteer Backhoe - Tractor Videos - Kubota, John Deere, New Holland and More You are correct on the price. I am saving up to get into the $15k range. Locally there are several decent, low hour machines available in the $15k range. As far as how much wood I split, i split 11 cord and sold it this year in 2 weeks time and have the ability to process much more wood given i have the equipment to get it done in a short period of time. I can say I am well on my way towards my goal, and i will keep working at it. The way I see it, I only have so long where i wont have any monthly payments, now is my chance to save up for my goals. Besides, when I am older I will tank myself for buying the equipment to maintain my property or have it for odd jobs.

Trust me buy it now! You will never live cheaper than when you live with mom and dad. I would live with them as long as you and they can stand it to save up for when you move out. Im amazed at how much money i seemed to have when i made 10K a year when in school etc. I make $60k now and due to all the things you have in life it dosent seem to be as much as when i was in college partially under others wings still. I bought all my own chlothes gas fixed things myself and paid my insurance. But being out on your own there is food, gas, power, cell, cable , i net, house health ins, home ins, taxes, car ins, truck maint, trk payments if u got one (i have none) taxes on every **** thing like boats etc. I think you need to make $100K in todays world to seem like you are well off?

Very true. I am fortunate enough to have the ability to make $$$ doing various jobs. I know that this is my best chance of getting the $$$ to reach my goals and I will thank myself later in life for achieving my goals.
