Just read an article that refers to this generator as a marriage of an old fashion windmill to an oil rig pump. It is supposedly the next "new" technology breakthrough in wind power and expected to be available within a year. One company is setting up in Canada and 2 or 3 in the USA (according to the article).

Anyone have any idea who the companies are, how credible they might be, etc. The idea of reducing dependency on the grid is always appealing.

Enron was a big player in wind powered generators, and there are quite a few east of the Rockies.
A lot of farmers with windmill leases are wondering who will pay the rent.
This is about the 3rd incarnation of wind power since 1980, and I doubt it will be any more effective than the first 2.

Wind power is good if you are in an area with enough wind. But then you need to store the power and convert it to AC. Wind generators are usually used as backup to charge batteries in a solar power set up.
