Will UAW Strike?

I do like cruise control because I don't like looking over my shoulder...

Every morning there is a stretch of freeway downgrade where CHP hides in the between the bushes with radar...

It's just too easy to go 65 or 70 and the new posted speed limit sign just before the officers vantage point is 55... so each morning I cruise to work...

If he could expand to a general work stoppage I imagine it would get more traction as I hear very little about the UAW here and everyone where the subject has come up is ambivalent with only Tesla being bought new... not a week goes by with out another paper plate Tesla in the parking lot...

The city is slowly turning into an 80's-esque dystopian nightmare, but thank Christ the doctors can get their electric cars.

This feels like a bad movie.

Now codified by ordinance and you are spot on.

Our local beat career officer shot and killed a man at Walmart swinging a bat and is charged by DA with murder going on several years now.

The person he killed has become sort of a local hero with public spaces now named for him.

I was speaking with the officer when he got the call to rush to Walmart…

A very vocal public said the man swinging the bat was off his meds and it’s not like he had a gun and was shooting people.

In a split second your career is over and nothing will ever be the same for all concerned.

Departments throughout the Bay Area took note and many officers accelerated their retirements…
There is no way in hell that I would be a cop in Cali….

Few stay in retirement… maybe why Idaho is safe… it has the largest enclaves of out of state retired LEOs?

Nevada also had fair amount I know in the greater Carson City area..,

Is that because LAPD retirees go to Idaho/Nevada and there are lots of them retired? I can’t imaging NYPD or east coast PD heading that far west.

It’s standard for California officers to cash out and take their pensions with them out of state.

It was such a big deal California went after non resident retired drawing California based retirements implementing a source tax but that did not last long… but is simple if in the State retirement system because a portion of your monthly retirement was withheld.

Not that it matters or is relevant, but I read the Harry Bosch books. They often refer to LAPD retiring and going to Idaho.

I guess there is some fact in fiction!

Where will the retired UAW go or will they stay put?

I spent a little time in Michigan and work with people from Michigan...

I like it's automotive heritage but seeing block after block of abandoned homes really sunk in as the state has some very beautiful and scenic areas but urban decay was made very real.

Many head to Florida along with the retired teachers. 🤪

Michigan (like Cali) is a beautiful State once you get away from some of the cities, Saginaw, Flint, Detroit, etc. Surrounded by 3 Great Lakes it has to be boaters paradise.

Back on subject once again...

I keep getting the feeling that Fain (UAW) is asking for way more than the automakers will agree to. Like I said previously, once the UAW strike fund is depleted, I suspect things will change dramatically.

No 'income' at all equals disenchanted rank and file I suspect.

I am glad he is safe! I hope he is appreciated by the community he serves!
Thank you and I believe he is but that doesn't stop the scum from nearby cities from doing their 'business' in his town and willing to take him out instead of going to jail.

Agreed and I did enjoy my time at Greenfield Village and visiting Fair Lane and the Detroit Auto Museum…

More to see upon my return someday like Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, etc.

If the UAW and automotive keeps deminishing is that good or bad for Detroit and Michigan?

/ Will UAW Strike? #975
Been there and in reality it takes 2 days to really absorb Greenfield Village. Too bad the 'urban blight' has surrounded it.

That is typical with unions. At a minimum they demand at least double what they hope to get, which might be 50% increase, which allows room to "compromise".

It may, but it is not going to be as immediate as you seem to think

I think that will depend entirely on how 'up against it' the rank and file is. Around here at least, most of them are solidly up against it and 500 a week isn't cutting the cheese at all. They are used to living and spending on the mandatory overtime.

Christmas is coming as well. Gonna be a ton of 'coal' for presents I suspect.

The temp hiring practices are pretty messed up. The fix is for people to quit taking those jobs and eventually the job market would fix itself but production workers typically cant afford to turn down a lot of jobs.

I've heard of local electrical shops being so short handed they are hiring temps to do electrical work who are essential fast food workers

Disagree. If the job can be done by temp, nothing wrong with that. Hopefully it will break the unions over time. The idea that someone who needs work should turn down work, so they don't disrupt a bunch of privileged union guys is ridiculous.
