The non-UAW Maverick factory in Hermasillo went to 3 shifts in the last month or so. My Maverick hybrid was ordered in May and delivered Nov. 3. Some 2022 orders were upgraded to 2023 and then 2024. Some orders were given discounts for the changes and wait.

Irrelevant. Your article proves my point. No mention of closing the plant. Specifically mentions a successor.

So Torvy, do you think GM would keep extra people coming to an empty assy line while they are deciding if and when a new "camaro" product emerges? It may be YEARS before that will happen and it may be built at a different location. This never was considered a "changeover", it was ending a production of the current model with nothing to replace it yet....foretold in March..............before the strike.

That 'successor' is not going to be built in that plant, now or ever. The article would have clearly stated it was temporary.

Ultimately, Chevy is in the business of making cars. If Camaro is dead for now, they would be retooling for another make. They have had 9 months to figure it out. No way they let it sit idle if it is profitable. If what you say is true, they would have announced the closure of the plant sooner. I've been in closure situations. Those offers are largely bunk. 'We have positions in our Mexico facilities.' At best the positions are not comparable or are so far away that few, if any will take them. That is just spinning the narrative.

This is just the first of many announcements as they manufacturers figure out how to shift production further away from the over-priced union labor in those plants.

They are only dropping one model being built at that plant and so the plant doesn't close. The camaro was only selling about 24k cars a year so it being profitable is very questionable. Some management, production, material, parts, etc personal will be moved around to other areas. The point is, the strike did not cause the demise of the camaro.

Never said the strike meant the demise of the Camaro, it meant the demise of jobs. Without the strike, they would have a new or at least different vehicle go into production at that plant. Better for Chevy to let it wither.

They are still building the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 cars at the plant including the V models and Blackwing so no withering. The plant is undergoing an upgrade right now.

Dude, they announced the layoffs. That is withering. Not about the whole plant (due to language in the new contract) or about specific makes. The business will continue to shrink or move labor because it is too expensive. This is just the first of many moves over the next couple of years to recoup what they gave up. Unions (most anyway) are the dog that bites the hand that feeds them.

It is not the first time that the camaro has been mothballed several years between generations. Sales for this 2+2 has never been this low. It is no wonder that GM is taking a hard look at continuing the car. Why not put resources where it is more profitable? Some people just play the blame game though.
