Will cutting brass with steel cause a spark?

Safe and easy
1) connect to a BBQ and make sure its empty
2) unscrew the valve to remove it
3) rinse tank with water, dump, refill to overflowing, dump water and use now
That was my process. Chopped up an old propane can to make a forge.

Ratchet straped the tank to a trailer then used a big wrench to pull the valve. Fill with water to displace anything flammable. Cut it up with a grinder after it mostly dried off.

I have some old propane tanks I would like to get rid of but they have to be opened. I am thinking of cutting the valve off with my Sawzall, but really don't care to blow myself up.

The valve is threaded into the tank. Righty tighty, lefty loosey…

Personally, I would make sure they are empty and without pressure first.

I always filled them with water then cut the top off with a cutoff wheel .
