Re: Why don\'t Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

Kyle, I do think Deeres sight is the best of the tractor sights, no question, inaccuracies and all. On the otherhand it did nothing for me in chaning my mind to purchase one at the time I was looking. Bottom line has everything to do with sales. If Kubota folks want a superb sight for all the exploded views, cost of parts etc, go to TractorSmart and you will be very pleasantly suprised. You gotta know how to work the system and Tractor Smart is our great resource for Kubota owners. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS great info too for any tractor owner. If you have a tractor question like Gears, shuttles or HST, it's expalined well.

Re: Why don\'t Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

I have weighed in on the subject of dealers/brands trying to discourage the free flow of pricing information before and severly dislike it. I think it is nothing but an attempt to control information flow, protect weak dealers, and generally discourage competition. It allows dealers to basically threaten buyers with no or poor service if the customer doesn't buy local when service should be fairly compensated as well and be completely seperated from the purchase.

I bought local and my dealer was chuckling as he said the following thinking that it was a good selling point "You're doing good, you'll get priority service from me since you bought from me". I was very close to telling him to shove the sell where the sun doesn't shine just for having that type of attitude.

BUT... my opinion aside... I started not to even reply to this thread, but then it dawned on that SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT!!!!!!

If Muhammad is OK with it, we could start a new forum on this site that is NOT open for discussion. It would be simply a drop down selection list of makes/models/options and what a person from X location paid for that setup.

I would be willing to host graphs and/or charts of this myself if Muhammed was not open to this. People could send me the information to post in PMs on this site or something. It really does severely tick me off that they are trying to control the information flow like that. Find out the best price and pressure your dealer to give you something close. If he can't (or more likely won't) compete then so be it.

Power Trac(frequently listed in the ad at the top of this forum) posts its prices on their website: www.power-trac.com

Re: Why don\'t Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

I liked having the pricing on JD site, until I went to dealer and received their pricing....

I just got pricing on 790 and 990 and the pricing the dealer gave me was $1,000 OVER MSRP on 790 and $2,000 OVER MSRP on 990. He said that was because of setup and freight costs???
Very disheartning. I figured that after tax, setup, etc. was added I would be at MSRP, but to be that much over....yuck...

What a load of bunk. It just means he's charging you MSRP plus all the extras. Find another dealer.

Yeah, this is a good idea... we'd like to implement something like this. We'll talk about what it'll take to get it done. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Why don\'t Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

Something doesn't fit with your 'experience'. Better check into it some more, and find out the problem. Sounds like that might be a quote over 'dealer cost' or its a case of a new salesman that doesn't understand what is going on. I don't think my salesman has a clue as to what the Deere website prices are, as it isn't the end of the spectrum that he has to figure from. He's interested in selling to me what I want and making a profit on it for his boss as well as himself. After all, they do need to make a profit, and it is different for each dealer as to what they can afford to do for their customer. My salesman said he was selling $225,000 combines for $1000 over his cost, just because Deere said they had to be moved and he didn't want them for a snow fence that winter. Good thing we don't have to negotiate our hourly wages that way where we work (or worked /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).

There are Federal anti-trust laws that prohibit businesses from 'discussing' prices with each other, and I don't understand them, but do know there are pretty stiff fines if convicted of 'price fixing'. I recall attending many meetings where corporate members of associations were 'lectured' about not mentioning any product prices, for fear they would violate the anti-trust laws. Not saying that anything discussed here is even related, but something to ponder.

As someone who just recently bought a new tractor, I think this would be a great idea. However, I would like to see it include attachments as well.

I stopped by a JD dealer and asked for prices. I got 2 prices that were only $50.00 below MSRP. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Why don\'t Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

It would be nice if tractor dealers got savvy to the consumer. Car dealers have pretty much given up even asking for MSRP. My local dealer's initial bid for tractor, FEL, and MMM was about $100 under list. After I came back and asked him to match a different bid for $1000 less and added a brush guard and a box blade, he did!! I about fell out of my seat!
