Why don't Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

Re: Why don\'t Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

You may use the list as a starting point. However each manufacture may have a different structure. Example, I buy a lot of copper. One manufacture uses a list with a discount of .45. While another uses a list with a discount of .25. But both lists are very competitive to each other after you take off the discount. John Deere may have a list price where your dealers may sell at or around 20% off. New Holland may have a list price where the dealers sell at or around 40% off. So in this case what good is the list.

Again using list as a starting point, yea maybe but I sure would not use it in making any decision in purchasing tractor for tractor.

John Deere's high list price along with the rumors John Deere is high pointed me away from them if anything. In fact I didn't spend much time looking at John Deere when I was making my purchase and one stop at a dealer to get a price pretty much told me I was not buying Deere. Their used equipment was more than the others new equipment.

They are trying to avoid the problems car sellers are having with customers coming in who know more about their products then the salesmen do.

The general lack of specific information from other manufacturers made choosing John Deere easy now I just need to decide which one. Sad thing is John Deere’s website is still severely lacking by other industry standards. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

"". Their used equipment was more than the others new equipment. ""

That statement tells me a lot, as I figure that 'used' is the market place that shows the true value of what I am getting from my investment in 'green'.

Deere's prices on the web only (to me) are for comparing different tractors and implements. Don't mean a thing otherwise, as the dealer is under those prices by a fair amount.

To answer the question in the title of the thread - I don't know and don't too much care. They ain't green enough for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Compared to what industry? Tractors, certainly not. I think "severely" is what I'd term JD's competition' websites.

JD parts has online exploded views, part numbers, pricing and availability. And, if the warehouse doesn't have the part, the system will look at up to 5 closest dealers. This works pretty good when you have a 30 year old sickle bar mower and you break down on Sunday afternoon. Tell me that GM, Ford, or any other car manufacturer does this and it will put them high on my list of vehicles to purchase next time around.

Actually I think Deere's web site is about the best out there for tractors. Typically you can just about find anything you want. I have a New Holland but think their website stinks and is very hard to find information. Some of the information is there but you have to do a lot of browsing to find it.

Gotta love JD Parts site...but they could use more info and photos of their tractors on the main pages for the tractors they're selling.

Re: Why don\'t Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

YOU are correct!!! they should all give a SUGGESTED list price, at least you would have an idea. The only thing one needs to be careful of is that the list price don't keep you away also prices vary so much from one area to another.

Re: Why don\'t Manufacturers post pricing like JD?

You are correct , but most dealers will give you a quote , what the poster was asking was why when u visit a manufacture web site can't u get a ball park figure of the cost of a certain tractor? i understand that area and options play a big part in final cost but lets say a KUBOTA b 7800 just by it self cost $$$$ then you go from there. But alas this is not a perfect world /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
