I have lived and worked in lots of places that were nice to live in for a year or so, but nothing like the USA except for Canada. If I could afford it, I would live on the outskirts of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Nice people, plenty to do both winter and summer, but unfortunately with the $Million median homes in the area, it is beyond my reach.
I bought here in Arkansas for the lower tax rate on property, figuring to lower my base when I retired. Low property taxes but personal income tax which makes up for it when working but hopefully lowers my overall rate now that I fully retired.
It is nice and quiet, has everything anyone should need, 3 large lakes within 25 miles (one is 4 miles from my front gate), hunting, boating, hiking (not that I do that), beautiful fall colors, not too cold in winter but does get a bit hot in summer. We stay busy entertaining kinfolk and friends that come to visit for the peace and quiet of the county life and of course keeping up the property so it looks like a park with all the trees and plants.
