I bought an 81 Suzuki GN400 for commuting. We moved and I let it sit for 19 years then I cleaned it up and began commuting again.View attachment 296114
Then I bought an 87 Suzuki Savage- LS650 and used that. I Love the single cylinder- easy to work on.View attachment 296124
Then my hip arthritis kicked in, and after moving the pedals around, lowering the seat, changing the angle, etc I gave up. I couldn't trust my left leg to support my weight at a stop, or to shift reliably. Getting my leg over the bike was hard too. I sold them both.

This is the one I bought 33 years ago...that was 2 years before I got married
and this one I bought 21 years ago...10 years after I got married
And I still ride them both today...hey 2 out of 3 aint bad! :cool2:

Speaking of vintage bikes, here's a photo of my dad, taken in 1945, astride his Indian while in the Navy in Florida. He gave it up after getting married.

Thanks Walt. Mine are hardly ever used. It's not that I don't want to its just I don't have the time so they sit in there place waiting for me. I really enjoy riding the vintage stuff. You'll see a bigger smile on my face riding a 50cc Honda Cub than you will when I'm on a 1832cc GoldWing. The wing however is nicer on the highway and when it comes to riding its onside red my daily rider.
I used to be a VJMC member but haven't been involved with them in a few years but you are right, I had some stuff published with them.

I've been riding dirt bikes since around 1967 and street bikes since 1978. Mainly Yamahas in the dirt and Harleys and British stuff on the street.

I have rode for a few years. The wife and I spent our honeymoon riding trails in Shawnee National Forrest. During the first five years of our marriage we took several road trips. We traveled several states including a trip to California in 1978 on a Gold Wing. We sold the bikes when the kids were born and finally got back into riding in 2002. We currently have two Harleys; a 2003 100th Anniversary Heritage Softail and a 2011 Road Glide Ultra. I have attached four pics:
First two were taken last week when I rode the seven mile trip to town for work. NOTICE THE 3 DEGREE TEMP ON THE MARQUEE.
The third is a pic of my 2003 Heritage and the last pic was taken last May when the wife and I rode out to Yellowstone, another cold wet trip. It was 35 degrees and pouring down rain when we left Old Faithful and headed north out of the park to beat the snow fall that was being predicted that night. My wife is a great passenger.....never complains and she is always up for an adventure!!

That RG Ultra is what I plan on trading my Heritage for someday. Just need to get the house up to par and pay off some other bills first. Everyone said I'd sell the bikes when my daughter was born, she turns 3 in March and I still have no intentions of getting rid of anything..
