I know not everyone has the opportunity or lives in an area where you can get to a mountain to ski every weekend, but I know some people do take a ski vacation once in a while. Anyways I thought I would share a recent weekend of skiing with family. I usually am skiing alone weekly so having someone else along was nice to take pictures and video. Here is a weekend at Copper Mountain videos and pictures. <<<< More pictures and video here.

First year since 1982 that I have NOT gone out west to ski. Took 3 days last year to get back from Canada. Getting to old to put up with that airport crap...

Great shots from Copper. Where's your helmet?

Wife and I took a trip out to Breck for xmas and NYE this year. Was fantastic conditions and a great time. There's something about Breck's upper bowls and the woods that surround them. I could spend a week riding in there and never get sick of it.

We also rent a house near Killington VT every season, so we get a good 10-20 days (or more) there every year.

Wife ski's... I snowboard.

I am glad I don't have to do the airport thing, just a 60 ish mile drive to most resorts and closer for back country stuff. Now the drive time can vary depending on construction zones and conditions on either side of the Eisenhower tunnel.

I guess I am just old school as I have been skiing for over 32 years now, but I have in recent years thought about getting a helmet even though I have never hit my head. However I ALWAYS with a helmet on my motorcycles (even though CO has no helmet law) so maybe I am a little hypocritical there.

Breck is great but it is not good for day skiing. I like Loveland for a quick day ski, but I go to Winter Park/Mary Jane the most as I have property there so I can stay overnight and I like to ski Berthoud Pass from time to time for some back country stuff downside to that is you have to thumb a ride to the top and then hike some more.

I still dig out my Dad's old 215cm downhill skis for a run or two. The OLIN's on the wall were some I skied when I was 13 and the others are some 175cm Volant Karve's

Used to ski race here in NC, circa 1988. After the fourth time racing in the rain, I decided it was no longer fun! Anytime I felt "good" about a run, I had a slow time... if I felt totally out of control, I would place! It really helped my skiing since you had to make turns as fast as you can (in sometimes pretty crappy conditions).

I have done a lot of skiing over the years. Mostly right here in Maine at Sunday river and Sugarloaf. Sugarloaf is my personal favorite. Haven't been for a few years now. I also went out to Colorado once with my brother and skied Vail, Keystone and Breckinridge. Of those Breckinridge was my favorite. It's a different kind of skiing out there and takes some getting used to if what you are used to skiing on is ice, rocks and tree stumps :D

Cross-country, not downhill. No lift passes, no lines, no crowds, no airports. Nobody else around. Just drive uphill a few miles, get out and go. Most years. No snow within a reasonable distance this year. :(

I do some ski touring myself. I just go out my door and around golf courses.

I patrol at the local hill
Does that count as skiing?
This year has had some WONDERFUL snow days!

Those photos .. I've been there! Thanks!\

You need to work on your pole and arm motion, and WAY too much upper body.... ;->

I am an Alta-holic myself, though like teg I am getting pretty **** sick of air travel back and forth to SLC (which is actually one of the easier ski destinations to travel to). Also do some local skiing at Wintergreen VA.

I used to be a regular at Sugarbush VT when I lived in New England, and skied lots of CT, Mass, and VT resorts when I was growing up in CT and attending college in Mass. Many of the small resorts have since closed, kind of sad.

I live at what I always thought to be the ideal retirement location.
1/2 way between Montreal and Tremblant but for occasional skiing 20 mins from St Sauveur or Ste Adele.
Added benefit is on a lakeside surrounded by wildlife of all sorts. Just like a private wild life refuge yet 1 hour from major metropolitan.

Guess what, I lost interest in skiing hunting and fishing but not in tinkering with my tractor.
Times and interests change.
Guess I'm just the type that likes constant new changes and challenges yet it is all there for whenever I want to have a different day.
Life is good!

I do a lot of other things as well. I ride and race motorcycles in the summer months as well as work on them, restoring old bikes, making how to videos and such. As a matter of fact I have my website dedicated to those things that I like to do.

Motorcycle How to and Repair - Home I have probably over 200 videos and pictures of all the things I enjoy.

Here is a video mash up of 8mm film, VHS tape, ect... of me growing up skiing. My style is more from the early 60's-70's as that is the era my parents learn to ski in and thus transferred that on to me. I grew up on straight skies with little or no side cut and cable bindings with safety straps. This video only shows footage up until I was about 16.

We ski: both X-country and downhill. The problem here is lack of snow- a pretty much non-existent season this year, and late last year, in OR, WA, BC. The eastern half of the continent may be having the mother of all winters, but the west coast had a nightmarishly warm, sometimes rainy "winter" with record low snow in the mountains. As a consequence, this year's fire season west of the Cascades/Sierras is looking pretty alarming.

Common theme skiing, motorcycles, tractors it seems. Move 2 years ago from my dream spot 3 miles from the gondola barn, used to ski daily. Since I'm spoiled and now have to drive 20 mins, dont seem to get out there much. Only got two days in this year before surgery sidelined me, then it was just sleds to play on.
Still have the best plate on my truck thoughimage.jpg
