Who has Snow?

LS 125 MT - your elevation there in NM ?? I don't normally think of much snow that far south.

Tractor Seabee - I spent five years at the U of W. One winter it snowed about an inch. The smart folks stayed home - the crazies were out driving. When it snows in Seattle its a big bumper car event.

cat fever - we would go on 5 to 7 day snowmobile adventures when I lived in Anchorage. Trailer everything up to Talketna (~ 60 mile NW of Anchorage) Head out to the West and North for at least 250 to 300 miles. Camp out in tents - drag an ahkio with a big 'ol military fuel bladder. We could run into snow - in many areas- that would be 5 to 6 feet deep and deeper. The opportunities for outdoor adventures were - at that time - 60's & 70's - almost unlimited. The majority of all the land in AK is owned by either the State or Federal Gov and was wide open for exploring. Unfortunately - due to political concerns - most of that is now closed.
In Seattle you could add Rain to that also!!!!

We had the earliest snow with accumulation that I can remember this year in NW Missouri. Here's a pic from October 15th. Also one of the most beautiful snowfalls I can remember. All of the leaves were still green at the time.

OK, we have snow! Too much too early IMHO.
BUT
I had the occasion to observe a very rare situation.
Monday at dinner time we looked out over our lake to see the ice starting to form.
10 mins later half the lake was iced over and not that much later the whole lake was iced over.

Now over the years a have seen the ice break up as it occurred but never the ice forming.
Now just2 days later I'm sure I could probably walk on it as we have had -20 d Celsius overnight.

Same here. It's depressing, not that I dislike winter, just not so soon. Surprised to see Ice on the pond.

Supposed to be -9c tonight.

Getting the first snow of the season. Expecting 8" before turning to sleet and then rain tomorrow morning. I bought a new to me 64" snowblower and am looking forward to testing it out tomorrow!

Got no added snow but it certainly has been cold, damp, foggy. Just the kind of wx to make my 'ol joints ache.

Boylerman - just a note. DO NOT be disappointed if your snowblower kind of bogs down and doesn't do as you expected/like. There is not a blower in the world that excels when the snow is wet & heavy.

We get most snow with the temps between 34F to 38F. I would not plow or blow until we had a night of 24F to 28F wx. Hardens the snow - puts a nice crust on top - the snow will blow/plow like you have imagined in your greatest dreams.

Fortunately - that is the way our wx normally goes around here. 34F to 38F - it snows. The storm passes - it clears - the temps will drop to the mid-20's.

We had a October snow storm a couple years ago lost all my apple and birch trees .:( Leaves on trees and wet snow is no Bueno. We had 10" yesterday I love snow I hate people who can't drive in it.:drink:

We had a few inches earlier this week...getting more now as I type this. Forecast is for 5-8 inches today.

I did screw up during the last snow...it was wet and slushy, and I didn't plow while it was soft. Froze solid the next day and trips the plow frequently.

I won't make that mistake this afternoon...but need to get diesel before I start.

We got another 2" last night on top of the 8 we had on the ground. Gotta plow today.
That 2" we got last night turned into 6" when I went out to plow.

When I rented a place on the lake for the winter I used to love listening to the sound of the lake making ice as I was going to sleep.

We have snow coming down now with 5-9 predicted, and just after taking my first fall of the winter on the icy driveway I realized that my chains aren't on the tractor and I may need to snowsled up to get them.

Well we got our first plowable snow last night, 4 or 5 inches so far forecasting 1 to 3 more this morning.
Went out and shoveled and brushed snow of my wifes car, so she can go to work, started the tractor to warm it up.
Time for another cup of coffee, then go shut it down for a few hours till I start plowing.

In Northern N.Y.,we have about 7" and still snowing right now.Just plugged the tractor in.Not really ready for this;plow not on the tractor and water hoses still out(run to my bird pens).Schools just closed so the wife returned home.

Today's storm has been a bust so far (5-8" predicted, maybe 2 fell), but we got a bit over 10" of heavy wet snow on Tuesday. 10-day forecast doesn't show it getting much above freezing, so it looks like it'll be here for a while.

Usually keep the tractor in the garage/workshop once there's snow, but I've still got a couple of carpentry projects that aren't finished yet so it's still outside. It's a cold-blooded beast that doesn't like to start when it's below 25 deg out. Thought I'd save time & $ by getting one of those magnetic oil pan heaters. Surprise! The pan is aluminum or pot metal or something else non-ferrous. :banghead:

3 1/2" and still snowing. :(

Not a lot here, but it won't warm up and melt either.

Curious, the Soy Beans have not been taken off our place. It's just been too wet. How late can they do that if the snow melts, or it pretty much a bust?

We had about 4 inches of the wet type a couple days ago , and it started snowing this morning , expecting another 6 inches or so . Well at least this is of the light fluffy variety this time around . We got over 10 ft. last winter and the weather man is predicting about the same for this winter , all a big guess I would imagine .
