For the past month, my 175 hydro made a little white smoke at times when first started up, but usually it would go away pretty quick. Today I started it up after it had been sitting un-used for a few weeks. There was quite a bit of white smoke that lasted a few minutes before it went away. Should have cleared the bugs away haha. After using it a little, I stopped it. Later I started it again, and it had a good amount of smoke, but not the same as the first time today. Anyone know what's going on and is it something not too costly to repair?

thanks

Is the white smoke coming out the exhaust? In general, white smoke is oil smoke. You may have oil seeping past the piston rings. I am not familiar with your machine. Some engines just "use oil", even from day 1. (Chevy engines have that reputation.) If this is a new event, that is progressing, then it may be a costly repair, in time. Make sure you keep a watch on the oil levels.

Maybe someone else can help you with diagnostics to determine "where" the oil is coming from.

If the smoke clears in short time, then probably intake valve valve seal, or either valve guide.

Yes, the smoke is coming out the exhaust. In the past it smoked and would be cleared up in 20 seconds, maybe a minute tops. This weekend, it smoked for a couple minutes, then it went away. If it's a valve seal or guide, is this a problem that will eventually "break", making the mower un-useable? It's leaf season, so I'm hoping it makes it to winter haha.
